Hidden cache?

Does this quest bug? I have been searching in the circle for over an hour now, cleared away a lot of the brush. Went to where all the wolves spawned, no chest or anything.

These can sometimes be a pain to find.
It is there, somewhere in the circle.

i entered the search area and went directly in the direction of the smoke from the crate,, but only found 6 mobs,, i guess they destroyed the crate.

i don't know if that is a bug or is prone to happen but i had to abandon the mission.

As far as I know the crate can't be destroyed, it's also not always near the mob spawns.

The box for this quest is not destroyed by bad weather, but I can’t say for sure whether the creatures could have destroyed it or not. This box is large enough that it is difficult to miss. We cannot exclude the possibility that this is a bug or that it was actually destroyed by creatures.

There is one trick that I use to make finding it a little easier, the box is visible from a great distance, even further than the lod for foliage and such, do try to find a vantage that is distant and elevated.

More than once I've spotted it this way only to get closer and find that the box is completely covered by bushes and such and all but impossible to find from up close.
