+15 exp to turn wood into sticks,
+15 exp to turn sticks into tree sap
More exp to use the tree sap with something else.
I was dumping in 1000 wood, turning all of that into 10 X number of sticks, and so on.
The exp added up fast. Really fast.
We already taking levels ( IMHO!) very too quickly, i think levels should be expected to be much more difficult to achieve, i don't have the time to look where to put my points in the tech trees, that i have new points and i can't craft what i just put points in that, there are anothers points and crafts which can be done... all goes too fast...
And now, we can have exotics without deserve it, just to go to the cave near where you live... Maybe the devs wanted to promote the casuals players?
I was very excited at the beginning, thinking i found a pearl and little by little I feel that my excitement is going away and I regret it A LOT because this game could be in the best of it exists ...
Just maybe they could insert options, to activate or not some things, to satisfy everyone? (and the no pause button which can ruin your game because we have an IRL life... really?)
I regret all of that...
Oh, there CAN be fear of dying. Like when I died right in front of the cave in M4 in prometheus... and respawned at a microscopic base all the way in P4. That's deep deep deep into the volcanic biome.
No armor, no water containers, no wood to make tools (had TONS of metal, but not a single scrap of wood). I could make it halfway to the place where I died before I ran out of water, and started to die of dehydration (due to the heat). And that was if I didn't get swarmed by the wildlife from time to time. I stopped counting after 10 more deaths, just trying to gather wood. I'd run out, sweep in a big circle, and head back to base to deposit what I picked up before I died.
It was a nightmare scenario. And the only way I got out of it was, they'd just added to ability to order resource boxes from orbit. Boom, wood. Made some descent gear and weaopons. Ordered some water and food packs (literally first time I ever needed those).
You made me A LITTLE want to play it again.
Many deaths paved the way, many bodies before but if you want an experience, make your own rules. Set your own restrictions and make your own play style. If you need the game to do that for you, then no wonder you're bored.
But we have been thinking about improving the “hardcore” mode and I thinking bringing this back and making it even tougher for that could be in the cards
The "without respawning at all" is the extreme of the extreme, why not see something between nothing (actually) and the extreme? Maybe a % of XP loss, that every player could configurate with a slider like in ARK, where ALL is configurable and so, a slider to the gain of XP, too, the casuals could let the system like it is now : fast levelling, and the "hardcore" gamers could be choose to put the slider at 50, 20% or other...
I think that the fast leveling was adapted to the "ancient" Icarus, where you only done a mission and start again from the beginning, and not well adapted to the system of OW...that's why, sliders...everyone could choose the way he likes to play... :)
Hi Dev, there's a difference between "tougher" and "authentic survival experience". Settings should allow
1. Difficulty adjustment
2. Permadeath on or off.
3. Other consequence for failure (Opt in or opt out)
Plenty of other Devs manage to provide these settings to please a range of players. It's not hard. Green Hell, The Long Dark, Subnautica, etc. etc.
I tried this game for a free weekend and found that (for me), this isn't survival at all (since it's impossible to not survive). What you've made here is a Fainting Sim. The worst thing that happens is Oops, I fainted again, then I wake up and oh look, invisible space elves have cleaned, organized, and packaged all my stuff for me.
I love it that this style of game pleases a certain kind of player. More power to them. For the rest of us, please give the option to turn off god-mode.
If there is no possibility of failure, I can't feel like I'm winning, and I'm not playing.
In a survival game, surviving another day is a victory. In Icarus, it's a guarantee. Yuk.
