3 Maps?
Should I play these in order? I think I saw somewhere that the first map unlocks schematic for the others, but I could have misunderstood.

Olympus is the base game and has the most missions.
Styx is the same thing, missions, additional types of fewer animals and everything is noticeably more complicated. The main thing is that there are many bosses here.
Prometheus is simply a different setting. The fauna is partly from previous maps, but mostly new. Despite everything, this map is even more difficult, it is not for nothing that the difficulty is written here as 4 skulls. New materials, new items, a different scheme for developing your base.
Some things related to new materials are only available on this map.

Each of the maps is an independent territory, which so far is not particularly connected with each other (except for the general progress of the character).

Schematics are unlocked by your player level. You have level minimums for some, and you earn tech points every level. You spend the tech points to buy the unlocks.

The first map is called Olympus, and it's the best one recommended for new players.

Styx is a map that is sort of on permanent hardcore mode. There are baked in modifiers to lots of settings. Animals do more damage, can detect you easier, etc. Wouldn't recommend that as a starting point. It can be MUCH more difficult.

Prometheus is a dlc map. You have to have the New Frontiers DLC to start your own map. You _do not_ have to have the DLC to just join someone else's server. The difficulty on prometheus varies widely depending on the biome. The map is broken up into many different settings, like swamps, arctic, volcanic. The volcanic regions are off the charts tough unless you have high level stuff.

well you also have missions where you unlock black wolf arrows, scale armor and so on you cant craft them when you didn`t have the mission done but olympus is the best planet to start styx is pretty hard for a first time.

Olympus is the easiest map, Styx is medium difficulty however it can be quite hard to start especially with a new character.

Prometheus is the hard, it can seem easy at first but as you explore the difficulty will ramp up fast.

There are a number of missions specific recipes that can be unlocked from each map, they are character specific so you will need to rerun them on other characters.

For the most part, you can do just fine without those unlocks as in most cases by the time you unlock them your tech has far outclassed them.
