Yeah I saw that... just haven't found any plants yet and was wondering if there was a mission that you have to do first before they start showing up. Since there is no way to scan for them seems impossible to find them (plants) without checking a map online (we don't like to do that might).
Yeah.. We really need better way to find the plants. If we could tame a boar and use it like a truffle pig for example..
You don't need to do anything to unlock the red exotics or plants.
IcarusIntel shows the plant locations on their maps, but each plant has only a 20% chance of being there, it's random, you just need to keep searching.
My effective experience is that it's way way way less then that. In many missions and in open world, I've only ever found 3 plants. Ever. And that was with going to and visually checking every spawn locations shown on online maps. The 3rd time I farmed the seeds extensively, and ended up with 40+ exotics. It hardly seemed worth the effort, especially after teching up to make a residue cleaner. The plants produced less and less seeds, and eventually ended up with a -200% growth factor from overfarming.
Next missions I had 289 red exotics from a single tree. Washed and cleaned, that was doubled. So strange plants are kind of a novelty, but nothing I even go out of my way to look for anymore.
The 20% is "individual" meaning, each potential plant location you come across has a 1 in 5 chance of having a plant in it, so if you're not lucky on that map, it may not have any plants, but the next mission may have 8 of them on the map.
However, I don't know for sure if harvesting or foraging talents increases crop yields or amount of seeds you get from spawned strange plants.. Seeds maybe, crop yield maybe not?
