Exotics
Are missions on Olympus limited to one exotic drill spot ?

We have tried at least 5 times on different missions to look for exotics after drilling the first exotic we find using scanners but nothing other than random nodes in caves spawn, is this normal now ?

It's an old site, and I have some worries about whether it's still being updated promptly or not. But so far everything on there is accurate. There's a filter icon (looks like a funnel) on light blue vertical stripe on left side. If you click it, it opens up a whole panel, and you can choose the mission. It will show all possible spots for an exotic spawn. It varies per mission, but it's on average 1-3 nodes per mission.

If you want exotics, the go to mission for a long haul is "spiritwalk: exploration" on olympus. 3 guaranteed exotic nodes, each with 200-400 exotics. Only 6 possible places those 3 can be. Only 1 of them is in the arctic zones (polar bear). If you didn't mind extra running, you could literally skip taking a radar. I still bring a radar though, mainly to let me know if I have to bother even going into the arctic zone or not, or if I can just skip it.

Other open world missions have 3 spawns, 200-400 exotics each, but they're spread across 10 possible locations. And THREE of them are in arctic zones (both central wolf and eastern polar bear zones).

The fandom map doesn't have as much information as icarus intel. Far as I can tell, everything on the fandom map is correct, but tons of stuff just hasn't been added.

If you have the new DLC, that map can have up to 5 exotic nodes, of both purple and red exotics. There are 68 spawn locations on the map.

You can't cheat and look at map sites and just know where to go anymore. You need to run a radar, and you need to be good at guestimating the width and and arc of the yellow bands, to figure out which biome they exotics are in. the workshop radar is worth it's weight in gold there, since it's faster and more _accurate_. You get narrow more precise yellow bands when you run it.

They made a recent change that guarantees at least one node on prometheus will be red exotics. Before it was possible to get 5 purple exotic nodes.

Exotics cannot be mined in any open world map, yet.

Exotics nodes that require an extractor are mission only things right now.

Spirit walk exploration just happens to be the mission with the most bang for the buck on olympus. potentially 600-1200 purple exotics. My average was 900+. If you have a workshop radar and workshop extractor, the mission can be started fairly quickly. One of the longest delays was taming a moa, since I needed the moa's G slot to carry one of the two items (radar or extractor).

Prometheus can have up to 5 nodes... but they only offer 100-300. I think they reduced the max amount to make it line up better with the workshop extractor power cells. They're good for about 300.

I had 5 purple nodes once on prometheus, and it was just over a 1000+ (I want to say 1050ish). They've since updated it so at least 1 of the possible 5 is a red exotic spot. I don't think you can get 5 purples anymore.

The main reason to go to promethus is red exotics though. As a side note, red exotics get doubled. When you convert them from unstable to stablized, it's at a 1 to 2 ratio. I've had 550 stabilized from a single red exotic spot.

For now, you cannot mine in OpenWorld projects.
Spirit Walk: Exploration is not an SMPL3 mission, but a Mission map type and as a result you can get exotics, and the ‘Exploration’ type mission is exactly what farm exotics are used for.

Thank you for the info. I am a noob here so excuse my stupidity but, how do you activate these "exploration" missions? Do you just walk up to where they are supposed to be on a map? Are they activated elsewhere?

They are mission mode gameplay, and you'd need to start a new session from orbit, and choose missions on Olympus.

"Exploration" missions are basically almost open world, but with a 30 day timer. They existed before open world was added.

They appear periodically in the mission flowchart. Pay attention to the full title. There are a bunch of different "exploration" missions. Spiritwalk exploration is pretty deep into the web of missions, and has a string of prerequisite missions you'd need to complete first, in order to reach it.

Spiritwalk exploration is an odd duck that doesn't match the others, as said above, it only has 6 possible exotic node locations with 3 total nodes. The others have 10 possible locations, and three of those locations are in the arctic zones. Those zones are a MUCH higher threat then just about any other part of Olympus map, because of two words "arctic scorpions". Not kidding, they are the size of tanks. Get caught by one of those (or more, they often spawn in pairs), and you're deadmeat.

Explorations don't have any rewards payouts, or mission tasks. You can literally start the exploration mission, get out of your pod, get back in and blast off. Mission done.

Which is handy, since you can call it quits and finish the mission at any time. There was one night where the 3rd exotic site was in the arctic polar bear zone... and I just wasn't feeling it. I skipped it and ran back to the pod, exited the mission.

OK. So you basically cannot harvest exotics in open world mode on Olympus then?
