Yeah, the painting and geodes are only unlocked by buying a decorations DLC. Which... I may actually buy. One of the prometheus missions (I think the 6th story mission), has 2 geodes at a base spawned in for the mission. I dismantled the whole base and brought everything back to my own base. I have the geodes set up, and they're pretty cool.
Those geodes are free low level lighting, forever. They can be turned on/off.
I'm contemplating getting the DLC to be able to use geodes as beacons. Like to to mark the left and right side of bridges across rivers, as trail markers for paths, etc.
But you are right just found them when I checked.
And thanks might do the same as tired of refilling lights or generators so that is a cool idea!
Yeah, the 2 I have (from looting the base) make great nightlights. My torch ran out while I was inside the cave where my main workroom was set up, and I had literally run out of mats to make another... a good five minutes of slowly bumping around into crafting stations, so they'd show up as white ghost outlines, so I could get out of the cave. Now I don't ever have that issue again.
Plus, they glow blue and just look cool in general.
was looking for more new wall lights earlier, but there doesn't seem to be any new ones, might be worth a suggestion in Upvote, the bedside lamps look great and work well though.
So far I've only found the wall torches, standing floor torches and the Geodes to be the better lighting, the geodes being the best. Electrical lights seem to still be a bit lacking.
Geode lights have the benefit of not needing fuel and are unaffected by weather or being indoor / outdoor.
