1) set all graphics to low
2) join a dedicated server (to reduce some load on your CPU)
3) kill other apps utilizing high CPU
4) observe any changes.
I haven’t noticed any other crashes yet, even if I continuously play for 1 hour on a computer much less powerful than yours.
Another option is that simply a strong drop in FPS is possible if there are a lot of animals nearby or they start running in different directions. 3-4-5 creature and my FPS drops from 35-40FPS to 25-20FPS (but I have a weak CPU) So I overclocked the RAM timing one more time (the last time) and it became a little easier.
But when I run away from animals; or I kill them all and collect skins and skeletons - FPS is restored. I noticed this pattern many months ago.
I play on High settings (Distance view - max), so I don’t know how things are on Epic. Perhaps when you move far away or in a different biome, other textures and models begin to load. We have the same amount of VRam on the GPU and the same amount of Ram.
Maybe you play on DX12, and there the VRam consumption is higher (although there is no sense), and textures begin to be pumped across the bus.
Or maybe you play on 4K + Epic settings (and textures) and your video card simply can’t handle it.
On FullHd + High Textures, my VRam consumption on DX11 is approximately 10GB. Before starting the game I disable all programs + 32Gb swapfile
I-2600K (4.7Ghz); GPU 6750XT 12GB; 32GB DDR3 1600Mhz timings 8-10-10-26
Afterburner needs to turn this on and actually see what changes at the time of such ‘drawdowns’, otherwise you can guess about this endlessly.
Or maybe you play on 4K+ Epic settings (and textures) and you simply don’t have enough 32Gb RAM, the system reserves space in the swapfile, starts loading resources, and that’s why such gyper lags occur. A duration of 20-40 seconds will be just right for this.
Then you will need to install 64GB.
Also, appreciate the advice. I will definitely take a look at my settings I think I let GeForce adjust my settings automatically so I think they are all on Epic. I'll make some adjustments and see how it goes.
What does the rest of your rig look like? I also play with a 4080~13700K~nvme SSD with no problems.
For the 40 series cards DX 12 Shadows to medium and light shadows = off , DLSS Frame Generation = on Super Resolution = Performance . With those settings I have to lock my FPS to my monitors refresh of 165 or it runs up to 245- 285 fps and that is in a large built base.
I'm glad to know that its not just the 3000 and below cards having lag issues but also the 4000 series also having the same issue. I have a 3070 and the game didn't run perfectly before the latest DLC but its running way worst now than it ever has.
I seem to have more issues with Prometheus than Stryx and Olympus. They are laggy also but are silky smooth in comparison. I don't know what the actual issue is but it feel like either the shading, lighting, textures or a combination of those three if not all three.
One reason that makes me think its something to do with the textures is the fact that fairly frequently I'll have the ground textures and only those textures randomly bug out and go super blurry as if they have crashed and have to reload. They look just like most textures when you first load into the game and after a few moments the textures load and pop in like normal all crisp and clear. Feels that the more you change the map the more it lags. Its a lot smoother until you start building anything, mining any voxals, cutting down trees or harvesting any plants etc. I'm no expert and could be completely and utterly wrong here but yeah just mentioning what I have personally noticed and experienced.
oddly enough it feels worst or no different even on a dedicated server than single player. Starting to feel like every step forward we take we end up taking three steps back with every mod that is suppose to fix some of the performance issues etc.
Hypatia is going to be really interesting to see if it actually fixes any of the performance issues that has been plaguing like 90% to 95% of all players.
