HOWEVER, since the files are stored locally on your PC, you have the power to simply edit your file to give yourself back whatever you had.

Question from ignorance:
Getting a worth of XP by literally editing game files isn't reason to Ban on Steam?
I think Icarus has no anti-cheat and you can really modify what you want, but I don't know if I'm right.
Icarus has no anti-cheat. If you go to their official Discord, I believe this is the solution they are posting there as well (to edit the local files to where you were before).

I don't know about Steam: I suspect that's just for games where anti-cheats are enabled...? I mean, I have other games that are SP that I alter files for all the time (for example, EGS, you can modify all sorts of local files).
Havent lost as much as you others though, but man having to start from utter scratch sucks, since i have absolutely nothing at all in the loadout section. Friend has bought some items so i could use those on the never changing world but its not letting him down with the loadout.

For my 3rd mission on a new character, I did agriculture stockpile. It was pretty slow going since I didn't have talents or unlocks that would let me farm or hunt well. When I went to check on the meat/leather/hide rocket... there was an exotic deposit just sitting on the ground right near the pod. Those are no longer locked behind payday extraction mission.
I stayed in the mission longer then I would have, to literally get enough levels to unlock the biodiesal powered extractor, and mined out the whole node. I ended the mission at IIRC level 27 on my new character, and when I returned to orbit I converted all the exotics to ren.
I was able to buy the workshop canteen, oxygen bottle, and the kuang workshop pickaxe (which counts as "steel", so it can mine high tier ores). That's ridiculously faster then my first time when I made characters when the game first launched.
I've been mining exotics and selling them mainly for ren since then. On the 7th mission, I have:
The workshop canteen
The workshop oxygen bottle.
Kuang pickaxe.
The enviro suit with +10 resist, -perceived threat, and 2 module slots.
2 modules, +5% move, +5 inventory
The 1st backpack, with +move speed.
The first workshop bow.
The aruda arrow pack unlocked.
That is a ridiculously long list of stuff unlocked.
Plus the canteen and oxy bottle keep their current amounts at the end of a mission, so you can hit the ground with BOTH resources from the start of a mission. Makes the run and gun missions like strange harvest a lot quicker.
Steam only gets mad at you if you cheat in competitive multi-player games. They don't care if you mod yourself to be a god in your single player games.
