Lava Boss

Is there a method to fighting this guy? Because he's just on you constantly and you can't get a second to regroup and heal, etc. I was even going to try and cheese him by building ramps up to a high location, but he destroyed those ramps before I could even get to them. He's definitely a arrow/bullet sponge, but is the intent just to go through healing potions non-stop or is there good method? Thanks.
