Will New Frontiers be an extension to the current open world map?
Will New Frontiers require you to start over, and if so can you bring in a current leveled prospector? Or, will this be an extension of the current map or open world already being played/saved?

New Frontiers, for the first time, allows all its missions to be played either in open world directly, or as the normal mission mode. You can take existing prospectors into the world (Prometheus) in the New Frontiers expansion.

Note that until the next big update, Exotics currently cant be earned on these missions. We just wanted more time to test, to make sure everything works fine with the missions before exotics are turned on for open world.

Were you referring to only the open world mode, when you said exotics cannot be earned?

So you need to run actual missions on the new frontiers map, to mine the new red exotics?

You'll have to wait to mine exotics in open world.

In a future update, the devs will add spawning of exotics in open world mode. I think they will also be adding open world missions to earn regular currency too (ren), instead of missions which reward items.

This will NOT be part of new frontiers, it's going to be a separate update that comes afterwards (being called "hypatia" IIRC). This update will affect all maps, Olympus, Styx, and the New frontiers map.

There's 3 open world maps. Olympus. Styx. Prometheus (New Frontiers).

Currently if you make an Olympus or Styx open world, you can't earn/mine/farm exotics. Currently you can't do any missions on an open world Olympus or Styx.

With New Frontiers, if you create an Open World for Prometheus, you will be able to do the missions on that Open World. You also do the missions as the normal game currently works. However exotics will still not be available on an open world. If you want the exotics, you will need to do the missions as normal and not on the Open World. It's unclear if this is all exotics, or just the "old" exotics or the new exotics coming as well.

In the Hypatia update (the next big update coming sometime in September-October) they will be bringing the ability to do Open World missions on Olympus and Styx (at least, some be able to be done). It sounds like they are also planning on updating it so Exotics will be able to be farmed on the open world as well either with this update.

So for that true "100% open world" experience you're looking at a month or two from now basically.

Probably a good idea to start working on a base on the new map, in preparation.

I've been reading the patch notes, and it lists a lot of tweaks and improvements to the alien creatures on the new map. I'm getting the feeling that they are really going to mess us up. Having a main base, and little hunting cabins/forward bases in other biomes is probably going to be a good bet.

Once prometheus launches, I plan to just throw a few hours in here and there to build up some infrastructure, just in preparation for when open world missions go live. Plan for the future.
