I did not play for so long, but now everyone can "cheat" their character?
Every progress is saved localy so everyone can just change file and have milions of currencies?

And what is the point to cheat?

And... this matters how?

If that's what they feel like doing, adding millions of everything, then I feel sorry for them. They will just buy all the gear, have everything, and then get bored of the game and stop playing. But they paid for the game, they can do whatever they want. Those kind of players are just spending mommy and daddy's money anyway.

I lost all my characters because I wasn't playing during the data migration. Shrug, I just started a new one and I'm level 52 already, since I know where to go and what to do. I never considered using save editing, because If I do, I know I will just... stop... playing... feels too much like cheating (even though my character got wiped).

im the same, my girl didnt play during the migration and shes just edited and got herself the armour and tools, i know if i do this ill stop playing sooner, ive been max level for a while with 280 blueprint points i have nothing to spend on but im in it for the build.

Its a shame about the server change tho, my brother is in the states and im UK so it was nice to be on mission together and we could both advance our claim while the other was offline .. but were past it .. my recent review wasnt flattering because of map issues and (imo) bad choices as far as game direction (ironically remove the helmet and need for oxygen and the rest all fits perfectly).. still im past that too for the time being. just play until you tire of it then take a break. like all games youll feel like coming back as things are added, but cheating is just cheating yourself and killing your own enjoyment, to my mind anyway.

I feel like he means that maybe it's a little unfortunate to know that you can just cheat your way through. Obviously by doing this you're only cheating yourself, but I can understand losing a little motivation to play when you know some people just cheat it all, and we all have easy access to the same "cheats".

It's not a big deal at all but I can see why it might bum people out a little, you know?

I don't understand it at all, no. What other people do, especially now, has zero impact on you at all because everything is local.

What does impact you is that unlike before, where undoubtedly people were cheating with whatever cheat tools exist these days, anyone can readily and easily cheat. That means you have to choose whether or not you want to cheat. So the people who are uncomfortable with this are the ones who are tempted to cheat and they don't like that temptation. It has nothing to do with other people, but rather people who were presented with the option to cheat and are unable or unwilling to just not do it.

I feel the exact same way. I missed the data migration, so I've had to start a whole new character... I'm not even considering using the file editing to replace what my old character had.

If I edit the character information manually, i'm just going to start playing less and less, then stop. I've noticed it in other games where I was forced to so something similar. It just feels like cheating subconsciously.

They've made a bunch of changes to the game, so if someone does have to make a new character, you advance MUCH faster now. I'm up to "expedition: avalanche" on the unlock missions... and I'm level 56. I have a ton of workshop gear, all bought new.

You can mine exotics in many missions now (and that was impossible before you did payday extraction when game launched), and send it all back to orbit. Exotics can be sold for ren at a 1 to 5 ration, giving you a ton of ren. Those two things let you make WAY more money then when the game first launched. I just started work on unlocking the workshop armor sets (the only thing I really miss from my old gear). Unlocked all three helmets, will start unlocked the other pieces bit by bit.

It's a single player game with multiplayer as an option. If someone cheats, or opts for a save edit to reclaim what they lost from the data migration that happened months ago, then what impact does it have on your game?
cheat? wouldn't U :brokenshield:rather play. fun lasts longer, I enjoy this game, its the BEST iv'e found in steams store. so no thank u .... I'll just play it.

Ye Exactly this

This may come as a shock but MANY games have files you can play with to "cheat". It typically just comes down to editing settings files or savegame files such that you either have things or can get them very quickly.

Answer. Dont do it. If it will ruin your fun, just dont. No one is making you.

We specifically changed the game to better support people to get into the game files and mod/adapt the game to what they might want to do with it. Defining the difference between a cheat and a mod is pretty much impossible.

And i personally am very happy for this, being able to mod games is a HUGE extensions to the lifetime of many games for me.

It's a shame we aren't, currently anyway, better able to support mod integration as well. There are some truly outstanding mods, but because it is not quite as easy as visiting the workshop it means many miss out on seeing some amazing creations. When you look at what life games like KSP and RimWorld have gotten from mods, it really shows what they do for a game.

Currently we have our hands so full with the current roadmap it can be difficult for us to look for time to rework what would be needed for more streamlined mod support.

With the mod manager it is not that bad, but the whole file structure and all the reference between the file are confusing for sure. Though there aren't really many functional or even graphical mods, most it just changes to numbers. Compared to what you can get in ARK or Space Engineers, as i would say that is close than KSP or RimWorld, it is a bit sad, though i am not sure why exactly it is this way.
