I usually mine with button held down, so I haven't noticed it with the pickaxe.
I used the same workaround like JAM: moving the focus of the crosshair to a different point and back again.
It was not due to lag, as I can move and do anything that requires keystrokes - it was just mouse clicks that are not registering. I have tried adjusting the mouse sensitivity that did not help.
One thing I did find is that since keystrokes work I can hit the key to bring up any menu (Inventory, Crafting) and the Map, and mouse clicks on those menus and the map work fine but going back into the game and the clicks still are not registering. Sometimes, using ESC itself and then clicking RESUME will solve the issue and if that does not, UNSTUCK will get clicks registering again without having to leave to player selection or main menu as in the past. Its certainly not game stopping anymore, except in cases when you're being attacked and or hunting. Especially hunting with projectile weapons, as it never seems to fail that the click works to fire the first shot (most often with arrow or bolt) and if you don't get a one shot kill, and don't run fast enough you're dead as followup mouse clicks won't do anything - like fire a second shot nor melee the very angry animal you just poked with a sharp pointy thing..
Mostly every mouse click did not get recognised by the game.
Happens with shooting or placing objects.
Aiming at the enemy and click the left mouse button... nothing happens. had to move my mouse a bit around and try again.
I know this problem from other games too. The problem is the "borderless window" mode!
The mouse goes slightly off the gamescreen and ignore the actions you do with your mouse. You can see this if you play in a smaller windowed mode. Swing around your mouse and click the button. It's clicking sometimes the edge of your screen.
Same happens in borderless window but not "visible".
This is NOT happen in a fullscreen mode!
