Extracting Exotics
So I just lost 206 exotics that I had in my inventory when I hopped into the drop pod to go back to the station. Lost everything. So I read up on how to get them out, and from what I've read, you need to either have them in your hot bar, or in the actual cargo of the drop pod. Which makes no sense, and I wonder if that is incorrect.

My question is, was this a glitch or just bad game design? Because all the game tells you is that you are required to extract with the exotics. Which is exactly what I did. But the 206 did not count. It's not tallied, and it is not in the mail. So where did they go?

How you get exotics back to the station changed when they decentralized the game data. There is now a new item, "orbital exchange interface" (OEI) in the Tier 2 tree, near the very beginning, top part of the tree.

To get exotics back to the station, you MUST make the OEI (it's pretty cheap: 7 iron and copper ingots, some wood and rope)--this wasn't clear in the patch notes, which made it sound like it was just a new *option*. It's MANDATORY. It's basically a message board. When you interact with it, you can request a pod.

The pod will drop somewhere near-ish to you. It's location will be marked on the map. You put your exotics in THAT, and ship them back, and you will get credit RIGHT THEN.

If you are playing with other people, note that ONLY PEOPLE ONLINE WHEN THE POD GOES UP will get credit for the exotic return, so make sure everyone who earned them is there for the upload. There is no more collecting at the end of the drop if you couldn't be there.

The OEI can call down multiple pods if you have a very exotic-rich mission (there's a limit how much one pod can extract). You can also pick it up and carry it, so you can just take it to the first node, extract, pod it up, pack up and take it to the next node, without having to cart all the goods back to the drop pods like you used to.

Putting exotics in the dropship, or carrying them back with you will NO LONGER WORK. This also wasn't clear in the patch notes. :(

I've already tested and used the pod, and it does work, and both myself and my buddy on at the same time got our exotics.

Okay. So bad game design then. That's incredibly stupid if that's the only way to do it. They took a feature that was working perfectly fine, and over complicated it for absolutely no reason.

Thank you for the information.

Developers, this was a bad decision if you aren't going to make this obvious in game.

They didn't complicate it "for no reason".

With the missions and character data stored on their centralized servers, they could have everyone extract out, and then (on the back end) update each character, whether connected or not, when the mission closed.

With the missions and character data now stored on your local PC, they can't do that. There's no way for the host's PC to reach out to everyone's PC who is no longer connected. They can only impact those connected RIGHT NOW. So they had to change the mechanic for when and how exotics were awarded.

However, it wasn't well-communicated. The post they made, it sounded like this new OEI device was "optional". It's not. It's now required to get your exotics, and that wasn't really very clear.

If you extract out, the game would register that you hold X amount of Y resource, then proceed to delete that from the world and register it to your account when loading the station. It would happen regardless if the session was closed or not. Very similar to how crafting works. The game world deletes the resources, then generates the desired outcome. So there does not appear to be a good reason for this decision other than complicating a process that was just fine before. If a specific pod had to be generated for this to work. Then take that code, and add it to the already existing pod. Otherwise, item decay wouldn't exist, crafting wouldn't exist, mining wouldn't exist. It was a poorly thought out design.

The patch made it clear the pod made it so the player could extract out from a location other than the original touchdown spot. That's where the optional came from. This also makes it so resources could extract out as well. But you are correct that they did mention OPTIONAL. Which would indicate that the original drop pod would work the same. They failed. This loss is on them. Fortunately, this wasn't that much wasted time. Only an hour.

Maybe they need to have more people proof read their patch notes. 100% of players take patch notes at face value. Optional was the key value. Either way, it is what it is.

you can fix the amount of ren/exotics you lost yourself now or just go crazy and give yourself millions your choice
