Dedicated Server Chime in Opinions
I am about to launch a dedicated server for 6-10 people. we have not played the game in close to a year. Is there anyone doing something similar the past weeks and how has it been working out? Should we wait? Thanks.

I've been playing dedi server for a while, but not for that many people. Reports that more people/structures will use more memory, but there are no min specs posted for hosting.

Overall, I've had better performance on the dedi server.

But please be aware, they are in BETA. There are a number of known issues. Recommend you join the dedi server beta channel in their Discord, and get the rundown (and support for common issues)

Thanks for your feedback. I have 128 GB DDR4 3600 on the server. I assume it won't use more than 64GB. In the past I ran a 36 server grid ATLAS server that never reached 64GB with 12 people on building a lot. Is this just 1 server instance? What kind of ram usage were you experiencing? Also, maybe I will just wait till the dedis get more stable/tested, since I have not told the group yet, as they are focused on winding down a different game.

It's one server instance on my box. I saw it using 8-10G (-ish) for 2 people. The dedis are pretty stable; most common issues are:

- when you have the server go from Lobby to an Instance (open world, outpost, mission, etc.), anyone in the lobby gets an error and gets kicked out. However, once the server loads the instance, most people can log in with no issues. Some people keep getting the error, but that's not common.

- can't see the server in the server list (only the person who has the server). If you are hosting a server on your own LAN, some people's routers can't do hairpinning, so they can't see their own server (but other people can). This is a local network issue, not an issue for the dedi server (although they could code in work arounds, and I believe they are looking at them).

- can't see the server in the server list (not the person who has the server), but others can. There's a limit on how many servers Steam pulls, and there are already more dedi Icarus servers than the default limit they had of 1000. They upped it to 2000, but you can configure your client to look for more. Or keep refreshing the list and hope the server you want is in THIS pull of 2000.

There are also some people who keep getting network errors; the Devs added in more codes for those to break it down what the actual issue is, but they are on break for the Holidays, so we won't learn more about those until the New Year.

Great info, I will def wait another week or two to see what plays out. Thanks a lot pal!

You are welcome... recommend you listen in on the DediServer Beta channel in their Discord... you will hear more what's going on there (and get hints sometimes of what the Devs are looking at/where they are going)
