Exotic Deposits in Open World
I have done the PayDay Extraction which by my understanding was to unlock exotic deposits to be able to appear. I am playing in my open world game and have crafted solar panels and the electric radar. I did a scan and I got no result at all. No yellow direction indicator and no black circle where i did the scan. Does anyone know what could be the issue?

Hello, please explain how exotic scanners work, (what is the difference between electric and biofuel? the scope of the scanner search? is the scanner looking for exotics in the area of the circle on the map? how do I use the scanner correctly?)

First there are no exotics in open world. If you are looking there you won’t find them.

The electric scanner has less error built in, when it gives you the arcs where the nodes are

Iirc the circle is the radius you must be outside of to do a second scan

When you run the scanner it will show an arc (thickened border of the circle) where a node is located. Thicker arcs are closer. It’s possible to have one very far away and the arc to be hard to see

The arcs can also overlap if you have more than one node

All nodes will show on all scans. If there is a node on your mission you will see arcs. If you have multiple nodes you will have multiple arcs

The electric scanner doesn’t have as wide of an arc as the gas one so is more accurate

And again there are no exotics in open world (nor should there be). So your scan will have no arcs

the wideness of an arc will show you the distance.
the closer you are. the less wide it is. (covers a smaller angle of the radius)

Could be wrong, but you can't harvest exotics in the Open World. It sort of defeats the purpose of missions if you could.

maybe some people just don't want to do missions.
that's all there was to the game before when they played many many hours and got completely tired of the game.
now there is open world survival that they want to enjoy but bam. forced to do missions.
♥♥♥♥ missions
allow us to drop into a mission with actuall crafted gear or items from an open world and then maybe we'd be interested in doing missions.
but as it is now. what reason is there to do either.
no point in doing open world because you can't get end game without single session missions. and nothing you do will help you in doing missions.
I find most of the conversations in here only focusing on exotics WHY ? I mean the point of Open World is to have a stable game experience use all the stuff level charters have a permanent base or three, run OW missions , explore , but most of all Level your charters and if u only have one WHY ? top Tier gear u craft is better than most of the gear in the store, SOOOOOo why play open world , CUZ ITS A FUN LEVELING EXPERIENCE i'm sure there is alot more to come based on how far we have already made it.... the game kinda sucked at launch , and now its on the verge of greatness, personalty I would like to see mission zones that are procedurally generated so that we actually have to explore and find stuff and not just be surrounded by the same mountains and terrain that are mapped by previous players that u can just go to a web site and look at where everything is, just feel like we don't even have an alien to kill yet and you got to know that's coming, not sure what the future holds but Rocket is doing a better job now than at launch and i thank them for it.... Thank You :steamsalty::2016watermelon:

But they want you to be able to play either mode with a character, and people DO swap between them. So it DOES make sense to allow the techs available to all.

A better solution would be to put a tooltip on the items that are only used in one mode or the other, so when people look at them/what they are for, they can see "oh, this is only used in sessions? I won't take it, then".

Actually, in some ways, the people who do sessions own MORE... because they HAVE to get the WS gear. That's what is "owned", and critical for the sessions.

And, not really, on the high-speed feed (lol)--the timers on the vast majority of missions are plenty, and you don't need to rush (unless you want to). And that's also why workshop items (and exotics) are so critical to the sessions mode. You use the exotics to purchase items, that help you with your future missions.

Session-based is more strategic: you have to decide what tech you need for the mission, and not over-build. If you need higher tech, is there a WS item you can bring instead? Do you have enough drop pod slots for all you want to bring? Do you need a base for tech, or just spin up a few items, and roll out?

Those WS items, what you choose to drop with (or not) are just as important as getting a bedroll down somewhere. :)

As an example, today I just did a scanning mission. I dropped down with 15 WS items:

- the 5 naneo armor pieces
- O2 bottle
- canteen
- survivor backpack (reduced sprains)
- 2 speed modules
- T2 pick
- T2 knife
- Jijing bow
- extractor
- 1 power pack for the extractor

I did the scanning mission, and on the way, located the exotic node on the map (there was only one).

I returned to my pod, swapped the scanner for my extractor, stopped in a handy cave to make a workbench and furnace, got enough iron/copper for the OEI, and went to extract.

Normally, to get exotics, you'd have to spin up T3 (min), but because I elected to drop with my WS one, I didn't have to make more than 2 T2 stations (the workbench, and the smelter). I did make an oxite dissolver for my O2 bottle, but that's kinda standard when you bring one anyway.

Came back with 194 exotics, plus the mission reward (which wasn't very much, but it covered my repair costs, and the cost of the power pack).

I could have chosen to spin up more tech, but now I'm ready for the next mission... or break and play something else...

why are you defending the missions? nobody is attacking the missions.
what people are asking for is exotics in the open world for the people who do not like to do missions at all.
don't force others to play missions if they don't want to.

Because exotics are deeply tied to the mission game loop.

You NEED exotics to do missions. You NEED the workshop items to be able to do the harder missions

You do NOT need exotics in open world. You can craft equivalents (or better) to most workshop items.

Exotics are not part of the open world game loop at all so they do not belong in open world. You can play your entire time in open world and never see an exotic and it will not change anything about the open world play. If you WANT them you need to go into the part of the game where they are required.

There is no reason you cannot do this the way the game is right now, and you can get exotics in the very first mission if you are already high enough level to make T3 items. The first mission is kind of a tutorial so really easy to do and get as many exotics as you want.

@ Patch Uhhh as some one with 2 lev 50's and 1 lev 30 i can tell you your not correct, you don't need exotics at all for either missions or open world PERIOD :steamsalty::2016watermelon: there just there for your addiction just like all the station gear

Going to necro this thread in case any new players come here looking for answers. Exotics are coming to Open World. They are in beta now and will likely be on Olympus within a few weeks.

Actually it is in the next patch, most likely by friday :)

You need to think a bit before going what you will need to craft and set minibase, this helped me a lot icarusintel.com

Yeah agreed.

The missions are jobs. It's why your character traveled to the planet in the first place. Those jobs take place at random places all over an entire planet. That's why bases don't persist from mission to mission. You land in italy one mission, then in africa the next. Why would a base you built in italy be there on the next mission?

And I just assumed that lore-wise, the land they give your character in open world has already been stripped/mined out of exotics. That's why they gave it to you for free. Our characters are basically gold prospectors. Sorry they don't give you land with a multi-million dollar gold mine in your backyard. If it was there, the corporations would be mining it themselves.

Exotics are in the open world now, built radar today, spent quite a while scanning and I found three nodes in the desert half a world away from my home :)

I also found some in the Riverlands quite near my starting point in a small cave. Definitely in the open world now

That statement is not even remotely correct.

Worshop gear can have effects that you will never see on crafted gear.

Like the neves icarus pickaxe give you a -40% over encumbrance penalty. You can be horrible overloaded and still _run_ at nearly your max speed. That's ridiculously overpowered. Worthy every single unit of exotics it cost.

Workshop is full of other examples like that. Unique benefits you get nowhere else. Like modules. You can't even craft those, at all. Workshop only.

And as others have said, if you want to do missions, workshop gear is the only thing you start with. Even though they added respawning exotics to open world, you could still make a case that doing a missions like spiritwalk exploration on Olympus could be easier. The exotics will be in fixed possible locations, you get a fixed number of nodes. If you have the worshop gear to make running the mission quicker, you can spam that mission with little windup time. Workshop radar, workshop extractor and power cells, and you're ready to start mining exotics as soon as you find them. Spiritwalk has 3 guaranteed nodes, and only in 6 possible locations. 50/50 chance you find exotics at any one of the 6 locations, and those locations are _fixed_ and known.

As of now there is exotic in caves in open world. I just mine some today actually.

so I'm seeing that a few people are saying that there are no exotics in open world,
strange since i seem to be harvesting a purple thing on the ground that shows it to be 'exotics' with an extractor, and have been farming caves and mining purple rocks that say 'exotics' and sending them up to space then buying stuff from a workshop??

That's because this thread is 2 years old. The game has been updated to include exotics in open world since then.

Ah that makes sence, I searched something about the deposits and this was the first thing that showed up, didn't realise the game was that old 🤦‍♂️
