The reward sucks though. Normal mode 2 players was 40 exotics first go, and 37 exotics the second go. Lame. We grabbed the C4 deep exotics point for more that 160 exotics from the node. 2 days of mining and shooting wandering animals. for more than 4 times the reward of a geyser preparation/event.
Drop 2 drills on a node, watch youtube for 40 minutes... profit.
These should be hundreds of exotics per wave given the effort..
Better route finding is obviously asking too much. -_-
The game definitely needs a balance pass to match effort to reward. I was watching one of the Star Citizen Dev Interview videos...can't remember if it was Inside Star Citizen, or one of the Talk to the Devs videos, but one of them mentioned that they were working on balancing rewards to the effort required. MANY games can do better at this. Icarus is not unique in this regard. For the most part, Icarus isn't bad at it, but yes as you note, there are a few head scratchers.
