Your decision if you want to risk that for the thrill alone, since there is no reward whatsoever for doing HC solo.
Loss of char is not that big a deal if you already have multiple Lvl 40-50 chars.
I still would not do it, because no reward.
6h missions, no harm to try it.
If you see you won't make it in time, you can leave any time.
If you are feeling a little froggy, there are apparently some groups that will come into private games to help revive you, but it's not something I would depend on. I think there's a channel on the surviveicarus discord for hardcore revives.
you don't have to complete the mission to level your char
I did Solid metal: Hard stockpile solo. It's doable, IF you know where to go to get the materials you need, and you focus on the mission.
As it was, I found out that if you are less than 30 minutes from the end of the mission timer, there's a big, red, warning and countdown on your screen to alert you that you are OUT OF TIME....)
(I was already heading for the pod when I got that, so it was just a matter of not dying on the way out).
So yeah, you might cut it close... and of course, if you think you aren't going to finish, you have to make the decision to evac in time to get to the pod from wherever you are...
Hardcore is never cool for the one reason that you will die if you internet burps, if there is a DoS attack, performance issues, say another steam game throttles your internet from updating a game that re-installs fully every patch. DELETE DELETE DELETE.
You dying from in game issues isn't likely because you will be very very careful, but the lag monster will always get you.
You have either been mislead or very badly informed my old friend.
Yes I failed at the first attempt of Voyager Hardcore as a solo did I die? was my body burned up and cast to the four winds? NO NO NO. Did it happen at the 2nd attempt? nope not a chance. All you lose is your time and progress & your back on the ship after "Removing from prospect" button is pushed (after all who'se coming to save you in your hour of need?)
I never lost my Character and he's a healthy 320ish level now. Voyager Hardcore for Solo's is challenging at first obviously not wanting to put a foot wrong on a perfect run. This can be marred at a later date by familiarity & contempt & that's when stupidity takes over and you lose not only you mind but all that progress. You even return from the dead with all your gear which should lighten the mood a little. The exp gain is off the charts I currently sit at 42 milllion now which ain't too bad for a dead guy. Try it yourself & have a blast, once you get out of the comfort zone you'll be fine.
Well so that's only because you are using the "remove from prospect button" that won't be around forever. That is only supposed to be used If there is a glitch or something happens like a life emergency and you run out of time. It's not supposed to be used as a crutch so you don't have to not care about the missions and just go in haphazardly and when you "fail" cheat your way out.
So Please explain yourself a little better old chap? Yes I died and thought the world has ended shut off the game & returned to it a little later yes I was downed on a mission however solo is solo and whether you like it or not the timer still bloody runs! Now you could ask for help (defeating the object of a solo run in the first place) Or are you going to get on your feet & try again? Back at the station I had my other 2 characters raring to go and complete this mission come hell or high water. I thought the "Remove from prospect" button would delete him in it's entirety however that prove not to be the case. I do not abuse it as I find returning with exotics much more fun than dying after 6 to 8 hrs with nothing to show for it. As for your spurious comment regarding a real emergency I would call dying in a hardcore game as "running out of time don't you think? Or would you prefer the honourable way of letting the timer run down instead as to appease you instead?.
I have completed this mission well over 10 times now all very successfully with different characters I have learned a great deal using different methods as logistically solo can be a nightmare. Nobody goes haphazardly into missions with the intent on wasting half a day of progress with nothing to show at the end of it.
I feel you on that. I started a new job recently, and it took me 2 real world weeks to find a spot where I could do a 6 hour mission. Just every day, only about an hour of freetime left... after errands, shopping, etc. ie, all the "adulting".
I agree 100% the risk vs reward is not worth it. It bugs me because i want to finish every mission but i don't want to risk losing my 400 hour character for a stupid mistake/connection problem..
However I didn't know you could use the remove from prospect button. Interesting!
Also i like the idea of using them for power levelling a new one. I only have that one maxed character atm.
So i might try after all, with a new character
