Building in the Arctic
So I built a stone building in the arctic and my ceiling, even though supported with struts, kept collapsing when there was a storm. I even had struts inside the building but it was useless.
I watched a youtube video and even aluminium ceiiings collapse.
So, how do I build in the arctic and have a structure strong enough to withstand the storms?

Snow has weight. Use peaked roofs for mroe stability but if you have to stay out there long term, its wise to keep a shovel on hand. One shovel scoop can clear all the snow off a roof tile.

Some other people just pick up the tiles when they start to show cracks and replace them, but I find that doesnt help when I have to clear a lot of snow off many tiles quickly.

I've built small stone houses in the snow biome with peaked roofs and they still crumble under the weight of the snow rather easily during any storm. It's pretty silly really. I think the differences between materials in this game is in looks only most of the time.

1 swing of the shovel and problem is solved. dont blame the game for your own laziness.

How much snow is causing the roof to break?

It's a 4x4 structure. There are 4 diagonal slanted roofs at each side and 8 flat ceiling ones in the middle. The middle ones are supported by struts.

I assume the flat ones broke? What pillars did you use? If they're wood that might be the reason.

They were stone but problem now solved. Flat ones are a big no no. Slanted ones are the way to go.

Thanks for your help guys.

I dont build in the arctic. I make temporary bases in caves to hold my gear and spend a night , create a save point or weather a storm then continue my mission.

That's a good strategy if you can find a cave without worms. Otherwise you have to kill them every time you return to a cave. I know it's not exactly difficult, but I just prefer the comfort of my own building.
Slanted roof, tiny building with just my bag and a campfire, outside a largish cave. Can spawn in, grab a knife, go kill the worms and then all my other equipment is safe in the cave.

This game REALLY needs to cut down on the amount of furniture you need. Like can't my Tier 4 workbench maybe also do the lower tier jobs?

If you just use concrete, it won't happen. Normal concrete without beams is enough but very expensive.

Peaked or slanted roof, use a shovel. Make sure you are supporting structures with columns, I use wood beams with stone houses just fine in the arctic.

I didn't need a shovel at all with slanted roofs, even in the worst storms. Maybe that'll change on different missions?
Got to give this topic a thumbs up as this info is very useful

Thanks

How high did the snow pile up on your roof? Just asking since i was there only for a short time with a smallish house.
Mine was this high.
