Steel and the stupid tech tree

Why am I able to unlock things I can make with steel without first unlocking the concrete furnace which I need to fire the steel? Also, I wish I had known that I needed the concrete furnace to make steel because now it's going to take me an age and a half to level up. My butt is so hurt. I have a butt hurt. It's dumb and I hate it. Stupid grindy game

you're missunderstanding. I thought I could make steel in the stone furnace I had. I did not know the concrete furnace was for making steel. So I haven't unlocked it yet. But I used my points to unlock the shotgun and ammo, but now I have to level up again before I can unlock the furnace I need

When you pass your cursor over the steel icon it tells you what is required
to fabricate it. Including the crafting bench you need.

where is the steel icon in the tech tree. You show me

Ok i just went through the entire tech tree and guess what i found?
You were right mate and i was wrong. there is NO icon or anything that
actually describes steel outside of the "Bloom" recipe that does not give much
of a clue in this regard. I can only assume they thought this to be "instinctive".
I made the connection, probably because a play a LOT of these kinds of games.
It is however a mistake to think that everyone will make that connection, especially
the more casual gamers or these new to survival mechanics in general.

no worries. It might not bother me so much if it wasn't so hard to get leveled up playing solo

Do not use the shotgun if you are on a tier 4 mission. The slugs require copper and you will need all you can mine for electronics. Bolt action just needs iron for the bullets.

Outside of T4 missions. I'd recommend the shotgun for solo. You can rapidfire into anything's face when it catches you by surprise. And a polar bear? You should have plenty of time to put a high-tier arrow in its face.

Pickled Carrots + Barbecued Carrots + whatever else you want and you're looking at some nasty damage especially if you specced into the rifle as well.

Is there a trick to shotgun?

I found bolt rifle to be infinitely better for long range headshots as it does x2.5 sneak damage and crit. I one-shot brown bears casually.

Shotgun on the other hand sometimes does 3x120 on a headshot, but that's it.

My problem is I can unlock stuff on Tier 1 : Steel Pickaxe. But I need Tier 2 stuff to make the tier 1 item? Don't cross tiers. Bad game design. Fix the tech tree.

Also the same thing for Bread Dough. Specifically says "Just throw it in the fire", so I unlocked what I needed for Bread Dough, and now I am learning I need all sorts of other stuff. Very frustrating.

The devs think its smart to have tier 3 blueprints which are in tier 2 and tier 4 which are in tier 3 so you need to reach the higher tier to be able to make the lower tier. I am not sure why anyone is wondering with stuff like that in a game where NOTHING makes sense.
