" Those that get left behind... are lost forever." If this is your reference point for that then its VERY VERY vague.

Would that be the new "Peoples republic" of New Zealand?

The one and only.

Read store description before you buy. What happened to you is clearly stated
in that description. Planning is key here, don't take a mission with a short timer
until the weekend. We all have lives, pets, kids etc but manage to manage our time.

Yep, they made it very obvious that there's permadeath if you don't leave the surface in time yet some players have failed to read and understand that. I don't know how they could make it any clearer.

From the store page:

Your time on Icarus is limited, so always watch the clock and use every second wisely.

The orbital space station waits for no one. If you fail to return to your dropship in time, there is no rescue. Your character’s progress and tech is lost to planet Icarus. Choose between sessions that can last from hours to days to weeks. Or play on the side of caution and build a permanent outpost. Every drop has a clear goal, but how you overcome its challenges... is up to you.

I was playing offline started a mission to see the environment, quit the game came back 8 hours later and got the "Character was left behind on a mission and now has to be permanently deleted??? WTF???"

thereby I lost a level 33 player and all of the acquired gear, the game developer needs to fix this.....

Pretty dumb mechanic if you ask me, whether it's as designed/advertised or not. How does how much real life time you have to play a game have anything to do with the challenge of the game itself. I could understand a time that counts down as long as at least one player is in the server, but real life countdown makes no sense. I want to schedule my gaming around my life, not the other way round. Feels like an incredibly thinly veiled way to reduce server hosting data requirements or something of the like..

You didn't notice the real Life Mission timer and put the two together? Or did you think the count down was for show?

This mechanic seems especially weird since when you die on the planet, you just spawn back from the space station. How isnt that possible if there is a storm...

They had to put some respawn mechanic in for during the missions, since always-on Hardcore mode would never get traction. The idea behind the mission timers is the window you have for the drop-pod to be able to safely launch back up to the station, as I understand it. Your 'clones' or whatever can still drop down until that point, but after that point the pod won't be able to get back out of atmosphere. Sure it's a loose lore idea, but it adds at least a remote element of risk. Just remember that you can always take the drop pod again early if you find you do not have time to finish the mission, if you do not want to lose progression.

Yeah I do get that. Realism has to be set back in order to create a game. Its just that in the game itself, I at least didnt pick up any big hints that dieing in the mission time is fine, but staying to long in a mission is another type of death that is permanent. That is also fine for me as a design decision, its just not very obvious ingame. I personally think, that you should not be required to read outgame material for you to understand this detremental consequence.
