Icarus
Knife throwing is the worst
Thank you for your attention.

Sincerely, someone who just lost his pricey knife.

I enjoy Icarus a lot, but throwing knives is lame and something I wish I could disable. I've only done it a couple times on accident in 70 hours, but each time the knife was completely lost. Spending 7 of your 48 spec points to simply be able to see an outline of a thrown knife seems like hostile design towards the player.

You can't really accidentally throw a knife.

Sure you can. It's the exact same controls as shooting an arrow and you typically have either weapon in your hands while hunting. It's not common, but an accidental knife throw has happened to every person in my 4 man group at least once.

Shooting an arrow you have to click rmb once, then hold lmb and release to release the arrow.
Throwing a knife you need to hold rmb to wind up then release to throw....

What did you say they are exactly the same again?

they really do need to let you toggle throwing your knife, its pointless and i get tired of searching, but i just use the best workshop knife you cant accidentally throw them, and i also remapped my hotkey to "drop" items. if you ever find yourself accidentally about to throw your knife just change items on hotbar to stop it

A toggle would be nice, and yeah I remapped the drop key pretty early on. Satisfactory had given me the muscle memory to quick swap with Q, which didn't transfer very well to Icarus lol.
Enforcer, you seem pretty aggressive towards a random civilly expressing their opinion. Need someone to talk to?

No. I am just against someone spreading false information. There is enough of that out there. No need to exaggerate or claim things that can't work in ways someone claims in game. You know....lies become norm if you don't stop them.

What false information? You literally throw a knife the same way you fire a bow. Maybe if you stopped attacking people in comments this forum would be less of a cesspool and more of a constructive place to leave feedback for the development team.

And i explained above why you are wrong. Both are done in different ways.

@Hela: No, there is no aggression in Enforcers post. Definately not.
@Enforcer: You have also to hold RMB for a proper aim with the bow. The problem is, if you accidently selected the knife instead of the bow and you don't pay attention to this, you will throw the knife. To cancel it, you have do select a different thing during hilding the RMB.

@Enforcer: Try just a RMB-Click a selected knife and you will see, the knife will be thrown. The prblem is, if you accidently selected the knife instead of the bow and you don't pay attention to this, you will throw the knife.

I literally just explained it to him.
How to throw a knife/spear:
You throw a knife by clicking and holding rmb to wind it up then release to throw. If you don't wind up the attack you will just throw like 2m away because it will lack power. You need to wind it up to give it more power just like when throwing a spear.
How to shoot an arrow:
You shoot an arrow by clicking rmb to raise the bow, then you click and hold lmb to draw the bow. Then you release lmb to release the arrow.
They are totally different ways aren't they?

I'm only using LMB. xD

well the fact stays that accidentally knife throws happen, no matter how similar the mechanics might be to those of shooting an arrow. I have lost quite some knifes because of this, as not much windup is needed until it gets thrown on release. In the dense forest even a 2m throw can be enough to never find it again. I even lost knifes I accidentially threw in my base building, because it glitched through walls and the ground somehow.

Me too. I have never accidentally lost a knife in game by dropping it or throwing it. For some reason we had one in our team who always lost his knife until he got behind the reason and now he doesn't lose them anymore either.

Knife throwing is still better than the whole Spear tree
