Icarus
Stuff falling through world
When i set my hand on my keyboard i accidently pressed q which is prebinded setup for drop item, and dropped my hunting riffle which fell through the ground. So here I am wondering why the hell something can fall through the map or why that is a design in the game. I have dropped so many leather and fur stacks and it just sits there, but the one time i drop my hunting riffle because of pressing the wrong button, the world eats it up.

to be fair that's an unreal engine problem that will be fixed on a period of multiple updates, happens in ARK too, im not defending icarus just stating that fact, what i really wish for is for them to give us a roadmap for the planned updates.

oh forsure, put plenty of hours into ark, which is mostly why i got so upset about this happening here. I get its an unreal engine thing just sucks when its a bis weapon

Each item has what we call its own collider mesh, and when that thing is too small on one side or badly shaped, it happens because the game doesn't detect any contact. That said, if you are facing the floor when pressing Q, it doesn't help when the item spawns in the world, and something long like a rifle may already half clipped into the ground when that happens, or having a bad orientation, which doesn't help. It's not an Unreal issue, but a design flaw: the 3D Asset having a bad Collider, or the spawn Transform too close from the ground. It will always happen with the same items.

So what about when it's the *player* falling through the map... twice?

I am not a programmer, but I may have a solution.
Falling items, like tools, do not seem to bounce off the ground.

I believe it may be possible to program two different sets of digital matter to slightly repel each other to prevent them from passing through each other.

Doing this may possibly prevent items from falling through the map.
No matter how small the digital "hole" is... the item will not fall through the map.

If an item is dropped on accident, digital gravity pulls the item down to the ground as usual.
When the item comes in contact with the digital ground it should bounce slightly and then come to rest...

(Item)+- <--- (slightly repel and come to rest on each other) ---> +-(ground)

Notice the magnetic charge?

Like charges repel while opposite charges attract.
The "charges" could be adjusted to give the effect desired between the item and the ground.

The repelling charge gives the "bounce" while the "attraction" charge provides the friction for "rest"...

I may not be a programmer, but I have enough technical knowledge to envision what may be possible.
