Placing the Beams?
Is there a trick I have not figured out to placing the angled beams where I want other then random chance and standing just right? I for the life of me can;t get them to go where I want unless there is already a Roof ramp there

I am not sure it will help, if you point at anything already built the beam will lock onto that items location and only try to go in places that will match the layout. You can break the lock by hitting the End key, this will make the beam be like the first one you place instead of locking to a set layout. Also if not already doing so, hold R to get direction of beam set.

Yeah I kind of get that but I wanted to try to the fun of it building a bridge and I can NOT seem to get he Angle beams to go in the directions they should.. IE beam to beam as support. But I haven't tried what you just said so testing time next drop.. thanks

Good luck, I forgot to say, the R key when held down allows you to change direction (Up/Down, Side to side or angled) then once have direction set just tapping R will spin the beam.

ohhh I did not know that about the tap... thanks that might be the part I was missing. I knew about hold R for picking version of the item to place

The green display on the screen shows you exactly what will happen. Point your mouse at the 'sector' you want. the small areas are for placing beams 'below' the current object.

The green display with the arrows don't work I have to point passed the area I want and then about 8 inches to the left or right and still it takes so long to show the beam where I want it. Sometimes it could be putting beams across the floor I just built just the floor no walls and I can square every section except one, why because the build mechanics are ♥♥♥♥♥.

If you put down a wall piece and then point at it you can see how the building snapping context is setup. You have the four outer quadrants where pointing at will snap the next wall piece to that edge of the wall. Then the round inner section split in two where you point and the wall piece will snap at a 90 degree angle to one side or the other. Going around to the other side of the wall applies different snapping context for that side. For example: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3133720813 So in this image you see the context markers on the piece already in place. I'm pointing directly at the middle circle on the right section so the next piece I place will be on that side at a 90 degree angle. Which is what the ghost image shows.

Also a note on the context marker color. It indicates structural stability of that piece. Blue indicates directly supported by the ground, green is good support, yellow is stable but be careful if adding more, to red which will fail and crumble immediately.

All the other building pieces have a similar inner/outer quadrant setup. Beams included. The problem with beams is how narrow the beams are means you can't really see it and whether you're looking down or from the side changes the context too.

How exactly are you trying snap beam pieces together? I've found that crouch walking so you can't fall off it all the way to the tip of the 45 or horizontal beams and then pointing at the tip in the quadrant I want helps. Pointing at the end of a beam is also different than directly in the middle. I still haven't figured out how to angle a beam down from a location by itself, but for bridges I just hop to the other side and build up from there meeting in the middle. I guess one way is to angle a ramp piece down using the R to switch between up or down and then attach the beam to its side.

Anyway, I typically have some pretty elaborate beam cliff climbing setups where I need them. You can free place beams to make a weather proof ramp wide enough that you can ride mounts up.
