Bow Talents - Which are worth it?
Did anyone actually test out hindering shot or wounding shot?
I tested a poison arrow once and it ticked for like 3 dmg, absolutely useless, so I fear that the wounding shot will be equally bad.
How about the hindering shot? Does it actually slow enemies down much? then again, I don't know which enemy I would need to slow down.

So I am thinking of skilling for Homing Instinct - then again, my aim is good enough usually. Anyone has any experience with this?
And last but not least: Pinning Shot. The 5% chance doesn't seem much and the question is, how long the enemy will remain immobilized.

Other talents which I ruled out are: Bullseye (to me, it seems that despite the wide crosshair, arrows are very precise), swift flight (I already know how to aim ahead with the current flight speed, don't want to mess it up) and quick load (maybe worth for the crossbow, but not a regular bow)

Hindering shot is not worth it. It was an amazing talent in beta because it was likely buffed to trigger more often. Every bear and polar bear I fought was in slow motion. As amazing as it is, it's not worth it for 5% or 10%, whatever the proc percentage is.

I love the bow and i made use of all talents in the tree I thought were useful based on previous testing.

Here's what I have:

Bow Agility (3)
Increased Arrow Dmg (3)
Increased Arrow Dmg II (3)
Quick Load (1)
Swift Flight (1)
Bullseye (1)
Soft Spot I (2)
Twice the Fun (1)
Soft Spot II (2)
Homing Instinct (1)

* I think the Bullseye and Quick Load points were to get down to the next talent, but I'm not sure. It's been a couple of weeks since I went down the tree.

Actually remade my character over these, found wounding to be near completely useless as you suspected. Hindering is kind of useful in my experience, its a good bit of slowdown that happens.

Pinning has repeatedly saved my life, I got it a second time after remaking. I also tried the homing arrow, did not like it. You can see the arrow turn mid-air and it sometimes does a good job, other times it will try to hit a nearby rabbit or fly off randomly and become impossible to locate.

As for times on pinning/slow im not super sure but I want to say its like 4 seconds, enough for follow up headshots on a polar in my experience.

This is definitely the bad side of the skill. I had a wolf coming straight at me and there was a Chamois close by to the left. I shot it right at the wolfs head and it veered left and took out the Chamois instead. This has happened several times like this. I have to quickly go to the knife and take'em out that way.

Thanks for your replies! That makes me want to skip out on homing instinct. So I might go for Pinning or Hindering Shot instead. But I don't have many points to spend (only 14).

So far, I managed to kill bears with no talents at all, we even killed a polar bear with my friend with just normal hit and dodge tactics, but who knows what else will be waiting for us in the future.

Every time ppl use words like OP on this forum and comment on something being too good next patch gets it sorted so be aware ;)

The thing is bows are really "strong" for the headshots you have to do. An animal skull ( at least from a bear or bison ) is pretty tough and literally impossible for an arrow to break through. I'd rather have the devs give them soft spots that can be shot similar to in the game The Hunter. Not asking for the same detail but something rudimentary like an area in the chest and neck where you can place a lethal shot.

I have made specialized toons to test out different talents. The majority isn't really needed especially if you have the tier 4 rifle. Hindering shot and bleeding shot are ok.

Spots may be tricky in combat with current AI. And with sneak attack wouldn't really matter as you could take time to aim anyway. But would be perfect if ever aliens comes to play. High HP unpredictable attack pattern that's where slow, wound and spot could come handy and fun. I didn't really try guns much but for now they seems OP af. I was hunting rabbits without really aiming. If/when T4 gets reworked nobody will remember what's bow. But then again - no way devs will make it too cheap/easy.

P.S having dodge ability would be nice if AI improve

I take the 9 bow talents, 3 to move faster with my bow out, and the 6 damage talents. with those you can one shot cave worms with bone arrows. That's really the only break point I've noticed.

if you are going to be regularly fighting anything stronger than wolves and cave worms. get a gun.

Lvl 1 bears?
Try close to 100...

I tried the shotgun and it sucked to be honest. low damage and stupidly expensive to craft ammo. Haven't tried the Rifles yet. I guess the pistol is not worth it.

And a normal Bear takes 3-4 Shots (if you start from sneak attack on the head) with the longbow and bone arrows.
Homing ♥♥♥♥♥ me up, that was the reason for me to start a new character :/
We need an undo function for the last talent point we spent

The arrow hits so often another animal I want and pulled the wrong one and sometimes i died because i can't hit the damn aggro one in front of me, but the sweet rabbit or another one far away.
Or i triggered many bad animals i not wanted.

This skill is stupid.

No the last one was a Lvl 57. But, i have made the effort to learn that
shooting from a crouch is way more effective.
Also, the shotgun works fine.. Unless you miss...
crouch just more effective when they not see you, stealth bonus x2,5
its mostly just the first shot
