polar bears need to be nerfed and fixed
I've already complained about regular bears but that was when i was relatively new and didn't know how to kill them properly but with the expansion into the arctic, ive noticed that polar bears are the real problem. Ive ran into multiple polar bears in my experience but ive just recently finished a 1 skull difficulty mission where i needed to go into the artic to scan locations. Knowing that it is the easiest difficulty, i did't think i would need to have advanced gear. But on the first scan it spawned a polar bear that immediately locked onto me. now, im in the open with nothing to climb onto and now have a polar bear chasing me faster than a damn bullet train. i landed a few spears in its head and some head-shots with a bow(all my talent points are in the bow category btw) and wounded it and slowed it but of course, its a polar bear and continued to run me down and kill me. "ok" i said, as i just ran back to get my stuff and finished the scan. but thats not the problem. at the last scan, i was on a PERFECTLY vertical cliff and decided to kill a polar bear below me. the polar bear was trying to get up but i knew it couldnt, like it was IMPOSSIBLE for anything to climb up- oh, it just climbed up it and hit me off and killed me.... after an hour of running back through the arctic and finishing the mission, i decided to test out how OP polar bears really are. I built a trap for a polar bear to run into and tested its health. with my bow being fully mastered and and the spear dps talent maxed, it took 3 headshots with a bow, 2 wooden spears to the head, 1 bone spear to the head, and multiple stabs to the head with a mxc spear. like wtf, meanwhile, a regular bear takes 2 wooden spears to the head. The polar bear is about 2x the size so i get that it should be stronger. but when i first encountered a polar bear i didnt expect it to be the same speed!?! On a previous prospector, i had put all my talent points into speed bc i was new and trying to escape bears. but with all the speed buffs i could get at lvl 20, it still wasnt enough to escape a bear but i was POSITIVE i could escape a polar bear...nope :) I definitely think they should be much more deadly than a bear but why tf are they so damn fast too, and in the arctic, theres almost nowhere to hide or get to high ground. if you run into a polar bear in the middle of the arctic, your done, that is unless you spend multiple hours making guns and ammo. but why do i need to do that when a 1 skull difficulty mission is asking me to just scan an area for drop-zones, does the game REALLY expect me to WANT to drop down in the arctic? hell.naw. my current prospector is lvl 30, maybe im just god awful at the game but im still in aw about how OP polar bears are... so to put my experiences all together, polar bears are 3x stronger than bears, have 3x more health than bears, are faster than you, can climb any vertical surface, and live in an environment where theres no physical advantages for humans. honestly, i wouldnt be complaining this much if animals just had a stam bar or if polar bears werent so damn fast. like also, ♥♥♥♥-sapiens: built for endurance rather than speed. yet i cant run 3 feet without getting exhausted(and dont tell me to eat some damn berries or somin for stam buffs, thats dumb as hell). but a polar bear happens to be an athletic track-star.(i also want to point out that the polar bears ive encountered were lvl 60 and lower). so maybe i just need to take my damn time and build a f***ing mech suit and not fight polar bears yet or grind the non-existent metals that are given to me bc i just cant seem to get enough from these damn bears. anyway, love the game still but #f***polarbears

ah yes i also had fun with the 1 skull scan mission, it spawns frikin polar bears on you, totaly 1 skull rating.

meanwhile other mission 3 skulls, all you encounter are a few cave worms...

the rating are so out of wack.

next time you aggro a polor bear honestly dont deal with it, just click back to character selection and drop back in and he is gone.

You can just drop out of range and stealth, they get bored and leave after a while, and they are really rather easy to avoid by sneaking in general too. By your description, sorry but those don't sound like actual headshots. If you want to bow then learn the dance, or grind out a rifle

Oh no, I was killed by a polar bear after putting three rifle shots in its head from stealth. That's totally likely.

Thats a huge wall of text that TL;DRs as 'dont know how to dodge bear attacks because watching 30sec youtube video is hard'

Indeed, "One Punch" Polar Bears lack fairness!

Sorry how do you kill regular bears? I'm level 18, chopping a tree and a bear spawns right behind me and kills me in two shots. I've heard people say to build a platform, but how do you do that when the piece of ♥♥♥♥ moves faster than you no matter what you do?
I've tried standing on a rock, which works for about two seconds, then the bear just teleports right next to me.
I can kill it in water, but that requires there to be a body of water nearby and it also requires me to run from the bear, which runs faster than me and only needs two hits to kill me.

Stabbing them in the face with a knife usually works best for me when they sneak up on me.

I play solo so I usually race to the T4 weaponry to get the hunting rifle. It’s the only way I’ve been able to reliably solo polar bears with the crazy respawn rate. A polar bear can wreck a trap so quickly I find it’s not worth carrying all the extra weight around. It’s not sustainable.

one possible way of dealing with polar bears is to stealth up next to them and throw a carbon spear into their head. polar bears bellow level 70 will be a one hit kill. (Ghillie armour is advised)

but surprisingly, the arctic regions seem to be the wrong way around IMO, the second arctic region (after the Riverlands) is far easier than the first.

Polar bears are the strongest enemies in the game IMO, they are more dangerous than even the bosses IMO. that coming from someone who has beaten the 2 last bosses (mammoth and worm)

Simple request. Paragraphs. Just ... paragraphs.

Also, I have determined the skulls are based on objectives. Not the difficulty of the wildlife. I could be wrong, but that's what I've picked up.

I just did that mission. The trick is to start the scan and run far away. The bear will just ... sorta, wander off. You also have a chance that nothing will spawn... I think. Only 1 scan spawned something for me, and it was the bear.

I've only done it once, but there is a point in their attack where you can side step and they completely miss you. I survived a surprise attack with this trick. WHEN you need to side step is something I have not mastered yet. Best way, right when you level, keep your valuables at home and go find bears to practice on. No XP = no loss. =/

the first polar bears were a pain but now I kill them quickly with only a couple arrow from a longbow+bone arrow ( I do have dmg and some crit on the bow tree) but its the same as other bears, just kite them and kill.

The skull rating they just pulled out of their butts, is a joke! They need to change the game mechanics more and actually do some better work with balancing damage dealt and damage received in this game. Polar bears are way OP and the player even at a high level is way too weak! I feel like this issue is being ignored, it was the same in BETA!! Why is nothing being done about it? AND WHY is there a tree for solo... why??? Every talent point is like GOLD! You shouldn't have a talent tree with no benefits if you decide to play with friends... and NO RESPEC OPTION!!!??? TF!!!

i can assure you i landed HS's. if theres one thing im good at in this game its getting HS's. but even if i missed, its still just really dumb with how much health they have.
