How to gather night blossom?

I'm on the mission Uplift: Bio-research but i cant pickup this flower (press F like the mission tells me) and i cannot dig it out.

How to comple this mission?

wait till night fall and interact with it, about 6/7 or later it should be possible i went for it around 8 tho when it was getting dark

yes. the shovel is a completely useless item. it should allow you to dig a grave for your fallen comrades.

I don't get the option to press F on the blossom. I've sat with this thing all night and gone back and forth and still no option to gather...

[edit] I ran further away and came back and was able to finally hit F to gather the sample. The geode worked 1st time. I have noticed the mission objectives can be hit or miss to acknowledge that you have entered the area or to activate the objective.
