Recurve Bow vs Compound Bow vs Orbital Compound Bow
Anyone got damage numbers to compare the two high end bows you can make
(Recurve Bow and Compound Bow) vs the top bow you get can from orbit?

All the orbital bows are garbage (I'll explain why later).

Recurve is ok if a bit expensive; it will delay fabricator since it requires aluminum and requires aluminum for repairs. Also it sits in a niche that doesn't really need to exist right now. Its +25% damage over the longbow but is far more expensive and the longbow is perfectly capable of one shotting everything but bears\polar bears with bone arrows. If you learn how to dodge bears, the recurve only gives you maybe 3 less shots to kill a level 100+ bear so its not really needed.

Compound is good but far too expensive and late game to be useful. It is buildable after the hunting rifle in the tech tree (requires composites where the hunting rifle does not) and the hunting rifle is a hit scan death wand that at most three shots any non-boss in the game. Also bullets are oddly less expensive than high end arrows, so even the ammo is cheaper.

The orbitable bows are hot garbage, and its because they don't have +% arrow damage except the last one, which has less than half the T2 longbow's +%, +10 vs +25. The only damage increase for bows is the +% arrow damage and the arrows themselves, so all the top orbital bow gets you is a flatter arrow trajectory (which can actually throw off your aim if you're used to the longbow\basic bow). The two previous orbital bows are actually worse than the *basic bow*, since one is -5% headshot damage (you should only really be doing headshots if you're decent with a bow) and the other gives a whopping -15% move speed (move speed is the most important stat in the game).

Ultimately, all orbital and high tier bows are skippable right now.

Recurve it's fairly cheap if you have the talents to reduce the cost by 50% to make

I would like to add that the recurve bow can load and ready an arrow MUCH faster than the the longbow.

Real shame the top orbital bow (which looks like a Compound Bow) is so costly and yet pointless. Hope they fix a lot of the orbital gear to be worth the time.

Yeah, bows from the workshop are under-powered for the price they cost. Longbow still wins hands down with the bow skills upgraded and flint arrows.

With the way they have arrows working, in that they have a small chance to break, and are otherwise reusable, it makes sense from a design/balance perspective that they cost more to make, assuming damage and everything else is balanced.

I'm pretty sure good arrows are more expensive than bullets in real life as well, at least on the scale that we're building them.

That said, higher tier (3-4) arrows are probably much more expensive than they should be, along with most everything else in tier 4.

when you said tier 3 and 4 arrows are more expensive than they probably should be is an understatement..... carbon arrows literally take a total of 5 aluminum bars not including the epoxy and everything else that goes into it for every arrow

Yeah, its mostly the Aluminum Arrows and above that I was referring to. Flint is actually really good, as is bone.

Game design wise I would argue even the best arrow is so much worse than a single rifle bullet (due to how guns get huge headshot bonuses) and iron is so plentiful that arrows could be way cheaper and the gun would still be preferable. Ultimately though all the arrows should be like flint where they take a single ore of their relative tier to make, not multiple ingots.
