- Stone and Bone Tools (i would get all)-You will use these mostly
- Iron tools - This is your "premium stuff" not always used but the pickaxe is always nice; so is the knife.
weapons
- both wood bows
- spear in wood and bone
- bone arrows
buildings
- Wood Building minimal floor, pillar, wall, door, triangle schaped Roof, ladder and diagonal wall
- same for stone building - you will need these to craft, sleep etc. and stone will not get destroyed. You need diagonal roofs to not get crusched by snow.
Utility
- bandages
- anti-bear-wound-bandages (sorry forgot the name)
- waterskin
- oxiskin
- basic torch
- bedroll
- furnance
Armor
- cloth armor - against heat and for protection
- low grade anti-snow armor (from bench) - against freezing
- Hunter armor (lvl 25) -good in all 3 categories
Benches
- fireplace
- crafting bench
- mortar
- armor bench
- stone cutter
- waterdeposite
- Oxidizer (the one where you fill teh skins with teh use of sulfur)
I would say, all the rest is completly optional. Going above iron tools, will not realy happen in missions, unless you builöd up for hours before doing anything.
I usually use (for my hotbar) a stone axe, an iron pickaxe, an iron knife, a bone spear, a longbow, 60ish bone arrows, a bone sickle, a torch and cloth or anti-freeze armor with 1-3 food items of my findings, to do all the stuff.
In my inventory i will have 2 waterskins, 2 oxi-skins and some more food and random stuff to repair on the way. I also bring 1-2 sets of a 1x2 house with 2 wood ramps extra. The bedroll and fireplace for teh house (sometimes a crafting station to repair the bow) i craft on the way unless i know there will be resources missing - then i bring them.
Maybe we get some more complicated stuff later on.
For exemple i just at the beginning i just skip iron tools - water sink - couse i'v farmed one of the first few mission to unlock the pickaxe and the canteen from the workshop. Now i can easly dropo down mine stuff and skip tools till platinum(since the pickaxe from the workshop let you mine it from the get go and well i'v invested a few point into the talent tree so i can craft pickaxe at half of the cost,6 bars instead of 12, and usually like i have my platinum tool in 2 days in game. I don't ever have used a spear i found the knife is more then fine if i need to go melee. I'v invested some early point unlocking the herbalism banch and the (forgot the name) the purple flusk against pneomnia since at the beginning you don't have access to bigg buff food get that debuff for 600 second it's pretty nasty. And Unlock the sickle! It will make your life so much easier:P
There are actually down the line mission where you require to build stuff from the t4 tier for progress so eventually you will need it
To the spear: I also only use the Knife and Bow to fight, but the spear is nice to fish and on rare occations to kill stuff below a ledge or something. Therefore i would say, bone is enough.
Anyway...
First tier -
First 3 points - Bow, stone arrow, stone knife. you can immediately start gathering fur & leather around the starting pond. also fish! Eating cooked meat, cooked fish and a veggie as your 3 food buffs is a big help. Side note if wolves give you problems, jump in the water and swim backwards while facestabbing with your leetle knife. Works even better for bears!
Second 3 points - campfire, bedroll, torch. Cook your fish and meat, try to make bedroll by nightfall. Find a nearby cave to sleep the night away - Hint just to the NE. Need to understand cave mechanics so the worms don't get you... Failing being able to use a bedroll, the torch will make the subjectively several years of night you are about to experience feel more like several weeks. hurray.
Third 3 points - head, body and leg cloth armor. I'm sure some would say to skip cloth and wait to make leather. You can't get leather until 15, the cloth does make a difference in combat, and a full set gives you a movement speed bonus.
Fourth 3 points - The other two cloth armor, basic bandage
5th 3 points - you're level 5! We didn't cover how to spend the talent points, of which I think you should be getting 2 points here - basically,, go down the left side of the solo tree and you should have opened up the extra 6 skill points. If so, you have 9 points available.
Wood pillar, floor, wall. (you can hold off on ramp until you need it. Don't need
a door either.) To build a shelter to sleep rather than find and use a cave, you need 2 floors, 6 walls and 2 more floors for ceilings. One wall on one end make a doorway. campfire and bedroll side by side in the back. Sleep well. Oh btw bears get stuck in the doorway and you can facestab them to death before they break the frame.
6 points left. Anti-parasitic paste, Antibiotic paste, suture kit. Floor torch is a requirement but don't really need it outside of caves. Anti-poison is also needed for caves but you can't get it yet and by that time you should just make the Tier 22 Anti-poison tonic. And if you place one under a wooden ceiling...bye bye little base! Splint and heat bandage and blood thining paste I can get by without for quite a while and there's good reason to save points up for level 10.
Damn I forgot bone arrow and bone knife. Early as possible! Everything else on the tree at this tier is a nice to have or more or less useless IMO so save up as many points for Tier II as possible. By then you should be able to determine your own priorities going forward...
I prefer systems that allow you to build anything given you have the materials to do so. That way no unlocks and no need for the design to OP any tier. However this system has issues with people just skipping early tiers to get to the final ones so it isn't perfect either.
You'll really want the oxygen bladder and oxite dissolver. It will save you a lot of inventory space and the oxite goes a lot further. I also skip all construction unlocks except wood/stone/concrete.
Tier 3 and 4 are not really useful until you've been on a prospect for several real world days. It takes a looong time to accumulate all of the metals you need for the T3/4 stuff.
Just pay attention to what materials are needed for each tech as you decide what to unlock. Too many times have I spent points only to realize I couldn't build it without some component I haven't researched yet.
Ramp take thatch, there is no point in building proper angled roofs, flat floor works just as well.
Need ramp just to get up to places, thatch is cheaper to build and lighter i guess.
Skip wood door/window, go straight for reinforced.
(Until then just replace “door wall” with “normal wall” during storm, and have nothing valuable placed on the floor piece close to it)
Water bladder sucks as it leaks like crazy.
Next time i’ll skip it and go straight for the “orbit canteen”
Doing fine without oxy bladder so far. (Just disolver in base)
Will go for the “orbit oxy tank” asap, hope they’ll change it to be filled at start.
(Or at least remember it’s state on last lounch back up)
Also went straight for fur armor.
But had no full mission in desert yet, but i think i’ll go leather for that.
Is the hunter armor really worth the points ?
Only place i desperately want something “stelthy” would be arctic to avoid polar bears.
For normal hinting i don’t see the need.
Never tried spears, seams pointless when you have knive and bow, which are both a must have.
Steel pick is must have, knive worth it imo, axe not really.
Currently platinum axe is must have, but i hope they change ore spawn to an ammount that you can do without it. (Pita to make, 12 bars i think, and one bar takes 5 ore, INSANE)
Use bone knive, arrows and sickle asap.
Not sure about skinning bench.
It is great when in area without many animals, and you need to make fur armor. But the ammount you get from even a tiny rabbit is so crazy, that i would not be surprised if they nerve it. With some boni, and the base orbit knive, i think you can make do without it.
lvl 2: Fireplace, stone knife, bedroll
lvl 3: Bow, stone arrows, bandage
lvl 4: Torch, repair hammer, fire whacker
lvl 5: depends on your choices of going to wood or thatch or waiting to go straight to stone, by then you should have a feel for how you want to progress.
