Icarus
The Way This game is Built, It's More Geared Toward Those Who Enjoy Speed Runs.
I'm at the point now that I just want to get t he blooming missions done, and stop torturing myself with all of the grinding.

Rush in, and get out, and not stop to smell the roses so to speak. Who cares about the beauty of the game just get the job done.

This reminds me of another game I enjoyed playing called City of Brass. The maps were lovely, incredible looking really, and the game had a timer which forced you to not stop, and enjoy the game itself, and the levels, and just kill the boss.

Same stupid game design. Finally the dev listened to reason (I bugged the crap out of them to change this), and they allowed you to play the game without a time limit (if you decided to remove the level timer), and people were able to enjoy the scenery, and the game play.

Speed runs will (IMO) lose their appeal once everyone has what they want from the orbital tech tree.

Just because you can speedrun a game doesn't mean you have to speedrun a game. For example, Metroid Dread can be beat in less than 4 hours if you speedrun but I spent about 14 hours in the game and enjoyed every minute of it. If I had rushed it and beaten it in 4 I would not have enjoyed myself as much.

That isn't the point. Point is the mission timers themselves cause you to consider doing a speed run so stop defending this mess of a game.

Mission has a 7 day timer and can be done at a relaxed pace in 5-10 hours. This leaves 158 hours left on the clock during that mission. Yes the mission could probably be done in 1-2hrs or less if speedrun, but 5-10 hrs feels okay for one mission.

The timer is 7 DAYS. That's the complete opposite of speed run.

That is 7 days REAL time. A game that punishes players for having real life responsibilities who may not be able to put the quoted figure of 5-10 hours in at once, or even over 3 or 4 play sessions is not going to last long. The mission timer mechanic is good, don't get me wrong, but no way should it continue while you are playing in offline mode and switch the game off.

I'm not much for timed missions. Never have been. So far the timer hasn't affected me. However, I have not tried some of the more difficult missions that some are saying can get you very close to missing your ride home. That does not sound like fun at all to me.

HOWEVER, when people are whining about this like they don't know going into the mission it's 7-days and they can't complete it in 7 real-days because they have a life... I can't feel much sympathy considering they shouldn't take a 7 real-days mission if they can't play for what amounts to a few actual real-time hours. And if you THINK you can, then something gets in the way of that, sure... that sucks. But it sucks less than real life.

Most of the missions could be finished faster than 5-10 hours. It would require some more planning and strategizing priorities on how to complete the mission but it would be doable. Some of the planning involved is if it's a 3 day mission and you know the next 3 days you're not going to have time to finish a mission pick a longer mission or work on outpost. Then when it's your weekend where you've got time then start the mission.

If you are playing solo then it's definitely going to be more challenging. If you play with 2 or more players the missions are going to get finished way faster since players can specialize and spread out the work that needs to be done in the prep phase of the mission.

I can only imagine that with 8 players the timer would be a joke because the missions would be finished too quickly.

i would argue the mission timers are absolutely and completely irrelevant. (not once has it ever even been close to running out for me. it really only serves to punish someone who for whatever reason does not continue to play while still in a prospect. )
it is the gear and map wipe between missions that makes a player consider speed runs. what the hell is the point of putting hours into a mission to get back up to steel if a longbow and fur armor is perfectly fine? there is zero incentive to build out your tech when it all just magically disappears. so as many others in different threads have condescendingly said to those who want a persistent world "jUsT dO thE MissiOns" becomes the only playstyle
