I love it...means sleepy time! It also is very dangerous to travel at night.

I like the fact that night time is actually dark. It's a feature.
Make a torch, lantern, or Lamp. Just be careful of starting a forest fire.

zero light pollution because there is no civilisation there is part of the reason it's so "dark" also, being on an alien moon might have something to do with it, different atmosphere, dimmer / cooler Sun, tbh it's pretty close to real life in the wilderness at night lol

I find that turning shadows to medium or low while in caves helps you see more.

Yes! Different monitor settings, different eye sight, different GPU rendering is why GPUs and games used to have gamma sliders. Drivers used to even have presets you could make for different games. When my card had the option I had 2 presets to watch Sea of Thieves streams for day and night. SOT nights are bad, Icarus nights are a lot worse.

No light pollution makes it brighter at night not darker, the stars and moon can get their light through. There's a huge freakin moon in the sky that would be reflecting light. And that's just one of the moons, there are many.
Wouldn't it be nice to go outside and see the stars in this beautiful game? Escape the Pacific nights are beautiful, but I guess we can't expect the same from Icarus with its extremely high minimum requirements. Nope, it's 7pm, time for all the kiddies to go to bed.

My new 3080 is freakin dark in all games (except ETP). Games I have a lot of hours playing on a 570 to know that it's rendering dark even with my monitor's shadow boost. What you fanboys are excusing is just pitch black on my screen. In my L shaped house the light from the fire barely lit anything, it took adding 2 more wall torches to light 12 squares.
Give it a rest. At this point you fanboys are going to kill this game a lot faster than criticism will.

Turning shadows to low or off has helped me, but I don't think off is an option in Icarus. With that change in Icarus I have a chance of seeing a reflection on the water to get a drink and then hope I can see a flicker of fire to get back to shelter.
But bruh, just make a rain catcher on your 1st day and drink out of the window. Git gud, bruh.

The caves are funny for me. Pitch black, can't see the front worms spawn or despawn. Then as I walk in it gets way brighter than anything I've seen on any stream, beta or release, torches or not. Inside my caves may as well be daylight.

It would be awesome if we would get a high-tier night vision sight module. It would be a nice goal to chase imo, even if it ends up being a challenge to get.
The game could use some long-term cool stuff to aim for.

I like dark nights in games but this one is too dark. Your eyes IRL adjust to low light conditions and you can see a little bit. Humans are not 100% blind at night but they obviously cannot see as well as some animals do. There are articles on Gamasutra that say if it is pitch black at night in your game you are doing night wrong. I'm not sure I agree 100% with that in all cases but I do think night time is a bit too dark in Icarus. The night time in Icarus is similar to what you would see if you exited a brightly lit room and stepped outside at night. Just before your eyes adjust it would be about as dark as it is in Icarus.

I don't mind the darkness, but there is a moon and there should be some moon light every so often...just saying.

There are a lot of factors involved. Earth is close to the sun and we have a reflective moon to make our nights brighter. There's also light pollution that reflects off of clouds that again brightens things up. However if you go into a cave without light sources there's no amount of adjusting to the darkness your eyes can do.

Depending on the reflective properties of the moons/gas giant around Icarus this could vary. Icarus orbiting a gas giant is also going to cause it to block out a lot of the sunlight depending on the orbital period. Caves are just dark no matter what planet you're on, unless you have bioluminescent life in there with you.

I feel you. As someone who plays a lot of Ark I feel myself adjusting the gamma setting manually via console command quite a lot. Of course, you can't sleep through the night in Ark like you can in Icarus but let's be fair, sometimes it takes an entire ingame day or longer to get all the fur even if you go looking for wolves so I can absolutely see value in the point you're making. :)
I'd also like some options.

The planet in the sky and the stars are indicative of a planet that would have about as much light at night as Earth does. It would only be as dark as it is in game inside of a cave. Your eyes cannot adjust in a cave b/c there is no light to adjust to. But outside your eyes will adjust so you can see something.

Bedroll on the first night is easy if you plan accordingly, get a bone knife/workshop knife quickly to increase your yield, even better get a skinning table and kill 1 rabbit to get 30 fur.
