Extermination Mission: Investigate Markings?

Hi, im doing an exterminate prospect atm, and cannot seem to find where these markings are at all. It says i have searched the attack zone, and now I need to investigate markings. Any idea what they look like, or where they may be?

Same issue - 2nd and 3rd Search Circles are massive, with no indication you're getting any closer - spent the last two hours just wandering round, hoping I'll find something

It's a pain in the ass. When you find the boss you will die many times over if solo... I still cant kill the 100000000 hp wolf

Think this prospect is going to make me quit this game. This boss is so annoying. Wave after wave of wolves, a bear always seems to want to show up, he for some reason goes back to his cave and practically heals to full health when I got him down to around 25% (not sure if this is a bug)...

I gave up after not being able to find the second track. I spent 2 hours looking for it and left that prospect.

I found the best solo strat is to craft a LOT of arrows beforehand and a single ramp, then place the ramp next to a tall stone deposit in the wolf's range, get on top, destroy the ramp and shoot the wolf with arrows until dead.

this is some terrible design you can't even see it ive been looking for this caca forever and still cant find it and bears/wolf hordes seem to always come in packs

Wait til 1800 and go to the circle on the map. He only spawns at night. And hopefully it's not bugging like mine did and create a MASSIVE circle on your map.

The markings are scratch marks or paw prints next to blood about the size of a 1x1 flooring. They tend to be in the slightly more open areas, but I would recommend clearing out the vegetation if you're having problems locating it.

i couldn't find the markings and i even cleared the area out

The markings in this quests are near the patrolling pack leaders, they can be a bit tricky to spot, especially if its dark.

The markings are northeast between the wolf spawn and wheat field. Between the foliage, I couldn't find it for about 2 - 3 hours until I found this clue on Reddit.

if you watch a video to guide you just remember to disregard when it says markings dont spawn in grass areas. thats false.

2024 and this quest still sucks. 4.5 hours to complete. It sent me across the entire map only to find out this level 5 wolf is like a level 300 with friends. Was enjoying the game until this point. No way this should be the second quest. Had I done this quest before I had fun leveling up and creating a base, I would have said eff this and quit. Such a dumb quest.
