the iron crop plot eliminates the need to constantly water the wooden plots for the 50% watered buff, you get a 4% greenhouse bonus per glass building piece within range to a maximum of 50% (12 pieces), the hydroponic plot gets the full greenhouse bonus without needing to build and protect the glass by using electricity.
I personally think the hydroponic plots are a waste as a separate stone greenhouse building large enough to hold 12 glass pieces with iron crops inside offer the same growth speed buffs is cheaper to build than getting to composites, they do seem to have a higher yield as you go up the tiers though
Btw one glass piece will already give me the full bonus on the iron ones.
It clearly says when you look at the hydroponic blueprint that it grows crops faster.
T4 has so many of these ultra expensive blueprints that give almost no improvements...
the UI will sometimes still show 50% from 1 piece, but its 4% per piece up to total of 50% other times, buggy UI
it gets the 50% without any glass pieces, no added bonus for having glass also. I agree the cost is not worth it

Ah so the hydroponic only removes the requirement of light/glass along with water that the iron ones also have. No other bonus. Thanks for clearing that up.
Confusing that it says it will grow faster.
You're right, absolutely not worth it.
As for yield I dont have a huge sampling of data but it seems relatively the same for all plots with RNG cause sometimes I still get more on just the wood one. I have not tested fertilizers much cause they are pretty slow to make for usage in plots, though they are a nice supplement to gunpowder with the talent.
Its a nice supplement to the other gunpowder recipe since it doesn't require the sulfur. Im not sure about time but it takes 10 spoiled plants to make 1 fertilizer in the wooden composter and then the 1 bag of fertilizer plus 1 charcoal makes 10 gunpowder in the mortar. So time to spoil and then time to craft.
The advantage comes in that no sulfur is needed, so pop in a stack of berries and split the stack to make more spoil faster and then just do your other gathering while it makes. If you start it early in the mission you should have a fair amount of fertilizer for gunpowder buy the time you need it.
