Can friends join you whenever they want??
I have WAAYYY more time to play than my friend does.. him and I started a mission last night, I hosted it. can I play and progress without him? Can he rejoin at anytime and still get XP? Can I do a solo mission until he comes on OR do I have to finish that mission first?

Yes you can play and progress without him.

If he rejoins before you complete the mission (you leave with Mission Complete) he will get the exp and rewards.

You would have to finish that mission first unless you have another character to do another mission with. That is why I like having 2 characters, even better now with the new solo talent points and the respec.

this game cloud saves so even if you hosted yesterday, anyone that had joined your game can jump back into that mission and if none of the party in mission is currently playing then that person gets to be the host and the others will join their game.

So, let's say you start a mission. You are "host" (you started the mission).

Your friend joins.

If you have to leave, as "host", when you leave, everyone else gets kicked out.

However, they can immediately rejoin, and now they are "host".

Your friend then plays madly through the weekend, and you join him/her off and on, but ultimately, your friend finishes the mission while you are offline.

As long as your friend waits until you log in and also get the "mission complete" message (meaning, he doesn't evac out... you both log in, and you get the credit), you both get the mission rewards.

Not sure what happens if s/he completes and evacs without you. In my group, we've always made sure everyone got the complete and evacs out with it and gets the reward.

EDIT:
NOTE:
I do not believe your friend can join your mission that you started, unless you are actively in. Meaning, if you start a mission, and log out before s/he can join, s/he cannot join until you are online, in the mission.
