Glass Construction
How can we build greenhouses for the new mechanics if a storm destroys the building?

have you tried building inside a building, i think the patch notes said sun or not it still gets the effect?

I just tried it and building inside another building the bonus appears, thanks. Using a piece of glass nearby already gives the bonus

Building it inside another building where the sun still won't ever hit is.... sort of defeats the purpose so that's dumb.
The fact the glass structures are ripped apart but even medium storms is also dumb.

So really this needs a lot more work to be truly viable or make sense...

I personally love all these screen shots of these awesome bases made of glass....none of which would last 5 minutes in any mission. Glass is the LAST material you would ever use in this game so it is just a bit misleading to show bases that have used it extensively.

Wait! Even reinforced glass is vulnerable? The only way to build with it is to put it inside another building? What in the literal F is going on here? I haven't built with glass yet,but was about to give it a shot. If I have to built it inside another building, what's the point?

in the end I put the plots inside a stone construction and using a couple of glass beams gave me the bonus, but as they said before that doesn't make any sense

The reinforced glass windows are fine but there are no glass walls in the game that are weatherproof. You are building them to lose them in the next storm.

Yeah we built a 1x2 Walls and door only inside a 3x4 Stone Building.. it works. also you can place plots Outside the glass within at least 2 squares of the glass and still get the bonus.

What they need is Skylights in the Ramp sections to so a full blown Green house in a stone building that makes sense

Thanks, that's some solid information right there. I'm really just trying to get the bonus but maybe the next 30 day I do I might want to get a little fancy.

I could really get behind some skylights. Would really brighten things up and maybe we'll see some grow lights in tier 4.

Yeah I also did some tests just now in the woods - also with concrete pillars and whatnot to stabilize.... the screenshots are nice etc, but glass is really useless if hit by storm... after one storm its almost destroyed - dont get me started on mats cost in relation to this..

Most cost effective is still stone - then you can build conrete for funzies (i.e. in arcitc bioms), though they have LESS Hitpoints than stone constructions right now. (2500 vs 2000 - it should be around 4000 for concrete in my opinion, so you would justify the costs as well)

Imho the storm dmg mechanics need to be reworked (such as in valheim for example: if you dont reinfoce with pillars, storm might dmg inner layers of the roof etc. - so if you build a 3x3 roof area, the innermost one will suffer dmg during a storm.)

Don't think about free-standing greenhouses. Think indoor greenhouses with artificial light. Protected, bonused, everyone's happy.

I started a 30 day and was able to protect my glass walls with stone awnings. It actually worked out pretty well tbh. Only thing I can gripe about is the 'baked in' reflection on the glass wall, not really a deal breaker, but maybe I can tweak some settings and get better reflections.

I've not worked with concrete at all. I read somewhere that storms mess em up pretty bad. I'm not that bothered by having to use the extra steel but I agree with Ivanskij, just give concrete a little tweak to bring them in line with stone.

I can agree with that Zourin, I'm really hoping for them to give us grow lights and maybe hydroponic plots on their next pass through the farming feature. Be real easy to slide into the tech tree on the tier we gain the ability to generate power and would really help with the immersion as we can graphically see our bases evolving into higher tech as we tech up.

I'm also very fond of free standing greenhouses though. Gives me a chance to explore building out a compound with multiple specialized buildings instead of my usual 2x2 or 5x3 workshop. Of course this all really just viable in the longer drops but it's a nice break from the land, scramble to min tech needed,finish...profit!

Yeah, with the amount of materials required to build glass construction, it really should be durable. 20 glass, 8 iron ingots and 24 sulfur per glass panel? Yikes. I cleared a corner of the map of silicon and sulfur, and cleared a cave of iron just to build an 8x2 glass roof.
