Interesting is that most of missions seem intentionally designed* in a way that you have to travel over long distances for multiple times.
As if there where any transport other than run, but there aren't.
Curious if they did this on purpose, cause there where supposed to be alternative travel methodes, and they did not adapt missions again after transport was scrapped ?
Or if it is just ill-considered mission design ?
Or they want it to feel like crosscountry running simulator 22 ?
Who knows.
*Things like telling you mission goal only after you once traveled empty to first POI.
Making you alway go back to your pod.
Missions that lead further and further from pod, and end at farthest point, versus going in circle or triangle where mission ends closer to start/pod.
(Circle/triangle also has advantage that you don't cros same area twice)
I will admit the running around got old for me too but I found ways around it for the most part. Though granted I did not get even half way through the game before I just got tired of the timers.
Timers in SP just sucks because some stay with SP because they do not have the time to devote to a game. In my case when I get a little bored with Icarus I have to keep pushing through because of the timer or loose progress. This is of course a whole other issue but it is to most a more important issue then transport. Also at the very least perhaps a horse should be added rather than motor transports. Another great idea would be electric vehicles that stop running in select storms and can be severely slowed in high wind storms.
Anyone that has played something like 7 Days to Die understands that after you have vehicles in a survival game the "Survival" part of the game is dead. From there surviving is too easy because the dangers that were there are neutralized. So Icarus needs to rise above that and with the Repec mechanic also implement transport smart.
Maybe if you have the talents for it. I can run faster than most of the mounts and for some reason they tend to get stuck in the slightest cracks. If you fall into a river it's nearly impossible to get up.
So I just equip my trusty old firewhacker and run. I can cover much longer distances on feet than on a mount (tried both horsey and birdy).
For example, if you suddenly need to climb somewhere or need to put it under a mount if it has fallen somewhere and cannot get out on its own.
So do I. But having to dismount and place a ramp really slows you down. It's faster to just ditch the mount and run. Under good circumstances I can get over 600 runspeed and jump very long distances. I can get from A to B a lot faster that way.
