How SinglePlayer friendly is this game?
Well, no, I don't have gamer friends. I also don't like playing with random 13-year-olds who cannot speak proper English and deliberately make my gameplay frustrating by destroying stuff that I build (personal experience). I am also not known for my patience and if I want something done, I like doing it myself!

So, is this game single-player friendly? Or is it like ARK Survival Evolved and many other multiplayer games in single-player clothing?

I mean, there games that automatically increase the difficulty the more players there are. Like THE DIVISION. So the less players, the easier it gets.

Is there some sort of system that makes the game actually possible for playing solo? Or is it just harder and requires more grinding and MORE time that I actually don't have?

I know it says singleplayer too. But I want to make sure as this is one of the concerns I have.

Thank you.

I have mostly been playing singleplayer during our development. Occasionally with friends. Even then, many of us have been building our own buildings in little villages.

The game is heavily focused around coop or singleplayer gameplay.

We are even adding an entire "solo" talent tree, for those who want to specialize their character for playing alone.

I definitely feel Solo will be more challenging, but with the challenge will come greater reward..... Look at me sounding all Spidermans Uncle!

I definitely look forward to seeing that. As a primarily solo player in these types of games, I am used to being a little hamstrung; it'd be nice to have something to offset the difficulty of stuff balanced around teams.

im single player to totally stooped multiplayer in 2013, i have 0 intentions of going back to it , and i was almost buying the game , but since its a coop based im hard passing it.

by the way since you are the same people who made dayz i don't trust you in any way possible , i got dayz way back in the day , the game never saw much for improvements , playing solo was a pain in the ass with other mindless *players* screwing around , and YOUR studio did nothing... in the end in a wave of frustration and anger i have erased your game from my library and sweared to never buy games that i will not play .
k
DEMOS we need demos and if your game is in beta it should be free to try , not paying to test it 2019, 2020 and 2021 have been the worst years for videogames .

challenge isn't good for everyone , primarily for me comes exploration, if the immersion is cut due to high difficulty ... then what fun in that?

This game punishes you for playing solo.
So it is not at all solo friendly.
If you die you loose all XP for your level and inventory if there is no teammate to revive you.

Dying with repercussions is what many people want as it adds a certain amount of tension.

Think of the early days of games like Everquest when death not only meant losing exp and possibly an entire lev, but also a corpse run to try to get your gear back.

Not a system everyone likes to be sure, but then again some people swear by rogue and rogue-lite games and others detest them.

I would say the largest detriment when playing solo will be the limited selection of blueprints you can make whereas in a group those 'gaps' could be filled by teammates selecting blueprints other than those you picked.

Solo friendly? Try again. Early on, the animals make a quick snack of you, even if you manage to put together a rudimentary shelter. They just destroy it to get to you. The storms will hurt you bad, or destroy your basic shelter. Water? If you find it, more predators to eat you. I've yet to get past lv2, because dying is a so common occurrence and the xp penalty for respawning pretty much guarantees an extremely difficult time leveling up. Gonna keep going, though. Due for a change of luck...

Edit: one thing this game needs is the DayZ suicide option to just get it over with whenstuck in an impossible situation. Sure beats waiting to die of hunger or thirst, like I am at the time of this post...

Seems doable solo but definitely slower. I am playing with one other person and we trade off on blueprints so we can get as much stuff as we can. I focus more on tools and crafting, he did base building and cooking/first aid. I don't think it is "harder" solo but it will be a lot slower progressing.

I've been playing this game 100% solo so far. I dont know what people complaining about animal attacks are talking about. Wolves take literally two arrows to kill, and bears are really easy to just stab with a knife if you pull them into the water. The biggest problem I've had with it is that you don't have nearly enough blueprint points to unlock everything. There are whole tech tree branches that I haven't touched yet, just because I have to spend most of the points on basic building parts or tools/forges etc.

That said, I've hit max level in the beta twice now without any issues. The only time I died was due to a glitch that killed me on exiting the game, but I mean, it IS in beta right now.

If you have any experience with survival games at all, this game is fine to play solo

in addition there is no single player mode and if you plan on playing with no one else in your game you take a hefty xp loss of 66% of what pops up. In fact this game is as far away from being solo friendly as possible, it's more like group solo play at best. If I had known that playing completely by myself would mean a crazy slow grind even in the early game, I most likely wouldn't have bought it. I don't mind losing xp for dying but when it takes several hours to gain 1 level because of a xp penalty for solo play, that just makes me want to uninstall this one. While it's true that the solo tree has a feat to help offset this it's at the bottom of the tree and is only 10%. So that means your still at a 56% xp loss with that feat. I've been playing for 8 hours now and haven't died yet but I'm still only just barely lvl 5.

So do you have any comment on why the full release has so many people saying the game is ridiculously difficult in solo play? That's the one thing preventing me from buying the game. From the reviews and player impressions, it doesn't sound like the game is designed for singleplayer at all.

Solo's alright if you can work out how to do things and you can wait till you have just levelled up before you do anything dangerous if xp loss bothers you.

The game is absolutely not DESIGNED for solo. But it is very possible. There are enough stupid bugs the Devs left for themselves to solo with, but no one tells you the following survival tips:

1. If you see a Polar Bear, just return to character screen. Log back in, and nothing is there. Im sure they have some form of spawn protection because I have never returned to a mission with an agressive animal on screen.

2. If you get surprised and a bear or something kills you, just alt f4 immediately. The game doesnt save constantly, and has no feature to punish or prevent save scumming. Most of the time you can die, alt+f4 in time and just log back in to no animals without a death

3. Dont sweat any of the nasty red icons...if you dont like a debuff the game gave you...just log out. If you get caught in a storm...just log out. when you come back in, nothing is there. I think some of this got changed with the first big patch, but just last night I was able to relog to fix my broken leg, but I have seen pnemonia stay...or I thought.

4. if you are going to mine in caves, turn shadows to low and you wont need to worry about light. The stupid light penalty is easily fixed through a graphic setting. you can play the game more efficiently and easier if youre willing to accept a crappier visual experience

And yes I'm pointing all of this out in the event they fix it. This is all silly to me, but if they left it this way, might as well let people know.
