Free to play, but also singleplayer?
What kind of business model will this game use for profits? I would assume something like skins or the ability to purchase materials from a store, but as the game is co-op/singleplayer there won't be much incentive to purchase either of those options.

Hey guys, Beinn here, community manager for Icarus.

We have not released what the monetized content will be yet, but there will be a tonne of free to play content, don't worry!

The best way to ask questions and get answers is on the Icarus Discord:

There's an interview with the developer somewhere, that gives a hint on what is and isn't...

Dont spend Money in Games like this ...

These Games are never finished and are only used to pull Money out of People's Pockets like DayZ.

All RIP Off ...

pretty sure this game was made by rocket the guy who MADE dayz, and jumped ship

or was paid to work on the standalone version for a specific amount of time and then left when the contract expired

First biome/planet free. Pay to unlock more? lol. Seriously tho I am concerned how this will pan out. According to Deans comments I can't imagine him losing money on a project as he has overhead from development. But not sure how this will generate revenue. Just make it a single purchase.

This is probably the most realistic answer, you can play a decent amount on a few (or even just one) planet to see if you like the game and then there will be DLC maps that are a bit more exciting you need to pay for. I also feel like this would be a more fairer way of doing things too, paying for maps isn't as scummy as paying for items that end up being direct upgrades IMO. Even for Co-op PVE.

How about advertising brands in game like they do in these super hero films?

Think about my motivation, you have made DayZ, others have gone out and done an amazing job with the survival PVP / battle royale genre, pubg, fortnite etc and games like that. What do you want to do? You want to make a game that lots of people play, that is very critically well recieved, and dominates a whole genre. I think survival PvE is going to be huge, people aren't really doing games in survival PvE and when I thought about how we were doing it, basically being able to run it on the clients, it was like, why don't we just make it free. The only thing I can really think off the top of my head in ways of monetizing it is drop ship slots, so you are building your dropship and configuring it, we will give you a default number of slots and if you want more for convenience to have different configurations then we could do that, they don't really effect the gameplay that much.

I just want lots of people to play it and it to be really well regarded and I run the company, I try to get people to think about it like we are making a free game, not free2play. I want people to think of Icarus when they think of Survival PvE.

Do yourself a huge favour and give people the option to pay for a base version of the game, with no forced slot purchasing etc. There's nothing more annoying than lots of micro-transactions that end up costing more than simply buying the game. I'd be happy to pay a base sum that's a reasonable amount for a game of this type.

If you know that people's convenience is going to be affected by a problem you create by designing it into the game itself, with the solution to the problem being to pay money, it comes across as manipulative. I'm not saying that's your intention, but this type of micro-transaction is frowned upon... Not really ideal if you are trying to achieve the positive vibes you mentioned.

Anyway, I'm very intrigued with your vision and look forward to seeing what it will bring to this genre. Good luck!

Official answer is that we don't have any comment on pricing or release date.

What I can say is that I will not approve a pricing model/structure that I am not 100% satisfied works well with the game. And I have complete control over that decision.

Over the coming weeks we will continue to listen and, at times, liaise directly with the community about the game - including how it is priced and released.

Thankyou for replying, that sounds very positive. I'll look out for any upcoming news.

Please don't make it timed based for single player.

And how about we pay a fair price to test it now?

Skins are a good way of donating and getting something back, to show off that you backed the development. Just my 2 cents. Really eager to play, much love!

The monetary form we all know that it is possibly a store with cosmetics, skins or even DLC's etc ...
Over there all good, it seems to me that people also have to earn money for their work like everyone else.
What I would not like is that you have to pay to see the entire game, I mean to pay to go to another planet or not be able to get an item of the game that can give you advantages etc ...
If it is a store style similar to DBD, WOT, PUBG or even Astroneers, I would not care at all, but what Elite Dangerous and conan exiles did to release dlc's at new game prices, that did not make me very funny.
RocketWerkz are doing a great job with Stationeers, I support you with your dlc's, and I think this game can be up to the best survival pve. We'll see what happens, it's talking just to talk, everything will be seen.:handhorns::mgoat::handhorns:
