is Is Tammy supposed to be extremely difficult to date? (spoilers)

I had really high friendship points with her and dissuaded them from dating at every dialogue option I got, but she still got together with Cal. The only thing I saw that might've let me date them was having 80 friendship with Cal, but getting it that high that early (I think it was the first of your early teen years) seems super hard—it'd mean making Cal my main focus.

Not sure if this is intentional; obviously just like in real life, some people aren't going to be as interested in you, but I honestly can't tell if I'm missing something. I don't want to break them up when they're actually in a happy relationship, either.

I mean I just recently got Nem to 80+ even before the Heliopause event and that's while saving everybody, working on the Golden Ending, and kind of working on Dys, too. So, it is possible.

True, but in this case I'd have to focus on Tammy too, as I'd imagine you'd still need high friendship with her even if you have 80 friendship with Cal.

There's also the possibility that they're just slated to be together just like Vace and Nem and you have to do something about that... Who knows? I've only ever went with Nem or Tangent.

I am in year 3 (of the game, 12 years old) and I`ve got already nearly 70 friendship with Tammy, so, it is possible (never forget a birthday, always GIVE your best ;-), and WORK with them!
I think you have to actively sabotage them (when they talk about each other)
not my kind of game, because both are my best friends (I encouraged them!), so I went for Tangent.
And lets be honest: they are perfect for each other! :-))

or Cal has to die... he has a weak spot for certain dangerous animals... hmm

I think it might have something to do with the "Tammy's Confidence" variable that pops up sometimes when you interact with her in specific ways/times.

Possible. I did a "be a big jerk" run and had her confidence at like -16 but nothing changed for her ending. Still a great mom with a gaggle of kids and with Cal, soooo either there were more opportunities to be mean or her confidence is for something other than her ending slides which would make me think its for her romance route or undermining her to get with Cal or something.

Tammy is naturally timid from the beginning. I have a sneaky suspicion that the Tammy Confidence is to help her stand up for herself and make her own choices. That's my thought anyway, I have no idea, but if driving it into the negative does nothing then you need to have it in the positive? *shrug* Am I reading this thread right?

Maybe? Even with negative confidence... she sure seemed confident lol. I was being mean to her about being a teen mom and she rightfully told me off saying its essentially not my business and its her body her choice and wont be talked out of it haha.

So yeah if driving it into the negatives didnt seem to do anything then I'd assume you need it in the positives for something else.

I think i figured it out lol. When her confidence is high she asks Cal out after one of the glow attacks in year 15 i think (they both come knocking on your door on your birthday explaining Tammy asked him out). If its low (and you've been flirting with Cal), Cal knocks on your door alone and says he asked Tammy out but she said no (presumably leaving you open to date Cal without having to kill Tammy).

The flower birthday gift from your mother gives a +10 relationship and really helps with getting Cal to 80. The Tammy romance doesn't seem to be able to triggered until after she has her first kid (neither you nor Cal are the father in this case), so her affinity should not take priority over Cal.
