Bumbo the empty can't win?!

Now that i have unlocked the empty, i just keep on being forced to lose.
Whenever i get to the basement, once before that even, i come across double face ennemies, without any damage dealing spell, and can only let myself die. Does anybody have a solution or does this game only rely on luck?

You should -always- have a damage dealing type spell in slot 1, the spells change within their realm of type (puzzle spells, damage spells, support spells). Did you by any chance replace your spell in slot 1 with a non-damage type spell?

The top spell is always a damage dealing spell, although I do know of at least 1 that doesn't actually deal any damage. So sometimes you will just get screwed and be forced to lose.

As previously stated his spells will always reroll into a spell of the same type. There are seemingly 5 types - attack, support, board manipulating, mana/magic, and charge, denoted by a sword, a heart, a puzzle piece, a purple swirl, and a remote respectively. I recommend always having at least 2 attack spells to greatly reduce the chance of softlocking, as there are many different ways you can softlock by getting a bad attack spell roll (one that only does ground damage in a room with all flying enemies, one that only damages front row with all ranged enemies, ones that only knock back enemies and don't damage, poopymorph attack with enemies that are immune to it, etc. etc.) I usually also run with 2 board manipulating spells, one support spell, and one charge item, as the mana/magic spells aren't particularly useful for him (a good amount of them are mana converters and you might not need that type of mana)
