Bum-bo the Dead is terrible against Shy Gal
By this point I'm guessing the boss system is set the same as Isaac; each chapter has a boss enemy pool and it's your luck of the draw which ones you get in a run.

I've come up against Shy Gal with B-t-Dead twice now and both times the fight seems close to impossible. Unless you grab a movement upgrade from the lucky spin wheel, 1 move per turn isn't going to be anywhere near enough to defend against the 3 gals. You're going to need poop, as even when they reform and make their next moves 1 usually still gets to attack that turn. You need primary attacks to reveal the enemy's face or to even eliminate fake ones, then more attacks after to hit her while she's vulnerable. but wait...your turn's over! You only had 1 turn, dummy.
You don't have enough leverage in attacks to gain mana to use the 1 Right or 1 Down spells and using attack fly against all 3 rows seems like a great strategy to guarantee unveiling the real Shy Gal until you're getting 2 curse tiles on the board per every turn.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but I feel like unless you get a movement upgrade you don't have a strong chance here.

It's all about resource management really. May have to settle for 6 yellows instead of 7 against shy gals, depending on the board, but in all honesty, she isn't that tough as long as you don't allow your turn to end and as long as you keep your mana high enough. I'm going to try to find her and beat her again with bumbo the dead so I can give more specific tips.

I'd honestly suggest not even using the attack fly at all unless you have to, like against puzzle resistant enemies, it's just a waste of mana you could be using on your movement spells. It's also good to try and keep your Mana balanced, keep an eye on how much of each color you have and try to keep them all up, so go ahead and make things you don't even need sometimes. I'd actually consider him one of the easier characters to play, his movement spells make it really easy to go infinite, things that get him extra movement or mana gain make him really strong.

I agree he can have good runs where you just chain match onto match onto match with the incoming mana that you use to move the tiles around. But on bosses that have 5 or 6 move turns, he just suffers a lot. He doesn't have the bonus damage to facilitate the lack of movement, but can agree in other rooms he can be great.

She's not that hard, in fact shes one of the easier ones since Dead can put so much stuff out he can handle her easily

Pretty sure this is a LTP issue as it's easy to gain infinite actions with dead, so the one movement is moot. Every other class has a more difficult time.

don't use the attack fly past stage one. everything naturally dies if you just make 4-combos over and over unless you waste all your mana on that garbage attack spell.

Maybe. Although the attack fly can come in handy. It can completely dominate the toilet roll guys as as soon as they come down from flinching they get hit again until they die. Can be great on some :FlyMexico:

bumbo the dead is honestly the easiest, but also the most confusing character to clear the game with for me. You usually have enough starting mana to set up a 7 chain of either more yellow or brown mana. Even if you can just set up a 7 chain of green mana, that's enough. The strategy is simply use first turn to either set off a 7 chain of yellow so you have more moves or find a way to buy time until you can, all while keeping an eye on your mana reserves, so you know what you need to replenish next to buy you more time to set up said 7 chains. Yes. more movement helps... but it's not needed if you know what you're doing. Just to give you an idea, I'm pretty sure that, if I wanted to, I could hop onto BtD right now and clear the entire first two floors without taking a hit. I've done it before.

That said, the complexity of bumbo the dead makes it a hard character to learn, so believe me when I say that I understand your frustration

Just lost a run with BtD in Halls of Belial because I came across a room of skeletons that were spell damage only, and I had no attack spells to use... IS THIS FAIR???

It actually is fair. Halls of belial are tough, but the fly counts as an attack spell. Pretty much the only place where the fly is useful, but why it is fair is because all characters have some sort of attack spell. (Except maybe empty. not sure there) It is also the third area, and you know in advance those enemies are coming, so you are given plenty of time to plan for it.
