Reloading guns. Drivable vehicles. Stealth kills. It's not really DOOM anymore.
I do think however Classic Doom is best the way it was originally designed.
Brutal DOOM is a conversion mod. Just like Ancient Aliens, Chex Quest, Marine DOOM, Clown DOOM, Pirate DOOM, and any other conversion and map pack produced by the community. It's redundant to say "It's not DOOM" because that's the point; it's a modification, a new vision. It's another way to play DOOM. It's not coming to change canon, or the memories you have of classic DOOM, and it's not overthrowing or taking the credit for the legacy DOOM has on modern gaming. It's a reflection of modern gaming on DOOM, as if the gaming industry ran backward and current games influenced DOOM instead.
Any fan, from one extreme to the other, whether you hate the mod, or love it to the point you won't play it any other way are both annoying. The DOOM forums were full of kids and man-children crying over people not enjoying the game the same way they enjoy the game. Every single one just as pointless and obnoxious as the last. This is no different.
Brutal DOOM is fine. Classic DOOM is fine. It's the fans that insist on being ♥♥♥♥♥♥ about it. People cried when modders were mixing up Duke Nukem and Shadow Warrior assets into their WADs because they felt there had to be a line, that you couldn't like anything else if you liked DOOM. This is the same, and the next mod fad will upset them all over again. Hell, mouselook was an old schism back in the day.
Change is inevitable, so I have less sympathy for the folks that feel like they have to defend 'the purity and simple perfection' of DOOM (EVEN THOUGH THAT WILL LITERALLY NEVER GO AWAY), while downloading map packs and GZDOOM so they can ignore the fact that 65% of vanilla DOOM and DOOM II levels are a slog, and the tank controls are utter garbage.
All in all, do you. Stay in your lane and play whatever and however you want to play.
TL;DR - No mod will ever make ID software delete classic DOOM and DOOM II, so don't be afraid of a mix up. You will always have classic DOOM forever and ever, no matter the modding fad.
I don't think I will play Brutal Doom with Classic Doom levels, it just feels too off for me. But there are lots of WADs that work well with it. I really don't mind it with Going Down megaWAD.
I think the only Brutal Doom I do not like at all is Brutal Doom 64s intro level. That does not feel like Doom 64 and I don't understand the point of it.
imagine trying to call someone a "certified sociopath with a gore fetish" where we have many games with violence and gore, including the very games you're posting on right now lol
you sound like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ boomer dude lol
He's still permanently banned from the zdoom.org forums. He gave instructional information to a disturbed person on how to commit suicide.
I mean, everyone was moving strategically on the map as squad cause difficulty was set high and if you die you dead until match is over, and all that iron sight and stuff...
