The only thing you need to really watch out for, is the race you choose. There are 6 races, divided into 2 teams. 3 on each. If you don't choose the same race group, then you wont' be able to party up. Can't even speak to eachother.
Nuans, Elves, and Dwarves on the west continent,
Firran, Harani, and Warborn on the east.
You'll need to be on the same side.
Is quest progress shared? As in, can you party up and progress together? (I asked because I just played Guild Wars 2 and most stuff isn't shared, even when you're in a party).
From what i've seen, yes. It works even if you don't both have the quest. I partied with a friend who was going around killing stuff when she didn't have the mission, and it was counting on my tracker.
You should be good then. Classes are completely open. No race/class locks :)
No ability to purchase extra character slots.
Level 10 and under is a 10min delete time.
Level 10+ is a 24hr+ delete time.
Its very, very easy to screw up your leveling process which will require a complete re-roll (which is character deletion because its the quickest method vs swapping skill sets).
Not all class combos are viable. This is a pvp game, you will be exposed to it and the rigid meta that comes along with that.
Group play when leveling to 30 is pointless, its very soloable.
This is not a simple jump in and play game. The learning curve is high and early mistakes are very costly in regards to time investment.
Theres lots of thing people are not telling you. Have fun Googling.
What is a delete time?
I won't be playing PvP. I've been told there are PvE servers. So, my "build" won't really matter that much.
It may be "soloable", but the point is to hang out and play a game together. So, group play in that regard, is hardly pointless.
It's an mmo. What kind of learning curve could there be?
There are no PVE servers. Its PvEvP, open world PVP. You will have to plan for it.
Group play while leveling is "pointless" because the 1-30 content is easy -you wont have the opportunity to see group mechanics actually play out.
After level 30 is when group play can start to matter a little.
Its a Korean MMO, similar to Black Desert Online, TERA etc. Theres a huge learning curve. I highly suggest you research EVERYTHING before purchasing.
"It's important to point out that, in ArcheAge, there is no such thing as a world server that is entirely PvE or entirely PvP. On any given world, there are plenty of areas that are PvE-only for those who choose to avoid PvP entirely and exclusively focus on the non-PvP sandbox elements."
So...still, should be fine.
Again, I don't care if the content is easy. The point is to play together, so to say grouping is "pointless" is just not true.
I've played Black Desert, TERA, etc... Not any more of a learning curve than any other mmo.
Haha, same page.
Playing with people makes the difference in the world. I just can't find myself to bother with this game unless my friends are online. It's far more enjoyable and tolerable that way.
That being said though, the game is pretty staight forward. I'm unsure what is meant by "learning curve", other than needing to learn little bits here and there from time to time. In actually it's a pretty baseline mmorpg. The depth is somewhat lacking.
So long as you understand the difference between agility, int, and str, and can make sense of the crafting list, you've basically got it all figured out.
There are obvious facts that people will rationalize off, and then you have indifferent people who DGAF and just go with the flow and dismiss things as irrelevant. Either way its misinformation.
But, if BDO and TERA are considered "normal MMOs" to you then yup, this game will feel normal too.
Enjoy!
ps I'm gonna keep an eye out for your future "how do I reroll gear cause I made a mistake" posts ;)
YouTube/Twitch has great guidance on how things work, so not much of a learning curve.
FTFY.
The starter gear, when you first awaken it, is given an attribute. Make sure that attribute is something you'll want longterm for your class, as this gear will see you through to endgame, but ultimately isn't going to destroy you. It'll just require more farming to correct. It -does- save a lot of time and work to get it right though.
If it doesn't have the stats you want, use an adventurers (or explorers?) salvage stone, you can buy from a general merchant to salvage the piece of equipment and get your storyline materials back. Then purchase a new explorers box from a weapon or armor merchant, and awaken it again, to see if you get the right attribute. Rinse and repeat until you have the stats you want.
There, just saved OP from the one of the worst learning curves this game has to offer.
Attributes for your class matter. :D
