This is the way I got mine to work, not sure if it will work for switch, but I figure it'll be the same. Go into Big Picture mode, go to skul in your library, Manage game, then go to controller options. In the input per game setting, set it to forced on. Hopefully this works for you.

For me it helped to put Steam Input on Forced off in Properties on the game.
I am using Linux and I have been having issues with Steam Input in all games, disabling it completely and going native input or remapping with QJoyPad (for games without native support) usually works great.

i've tried this and other suggestions online for my wireless Xbox 360 controller and nothing seems to be working for me, anything specific i should be doing?

The other things i tried included downloading x360ce, which didn't work either

Installing Steam Beta Update may work. Please try it first and we'll solve the issue asap.

Sadly it didn't work after installing the Steam Beta. Like the first guy said, it recognizes my very first input at the title screen, but once i'm in game it recognizes nothing

I have the same problem, I have tried everything I can think of to troubleshoot it. Kinda annoying as I hate playing with the keyboard.

Same problem here, I'm playing with an XboxOne controller and it worked fine before 1.0.3 but does not work anymore.
I had to set input per game setting to forced on before to get it to work, but now it does not respond when I get in game.

I have been having nothing but controller issues with this game and I am just over it. Uninstalling and likely not coming back.

I tried to play yesterday and had the same problem, idk if its the patch because when I bought the game the controller was working and now only works in the title screen. (Using switch controller)

i'm excited to play the game, i would just very much like to play it on a controller. Hoping this gets fixed soon

My controller stopped working as well but after the last update. I tried going into the settings for the game to fix it but it wouldn't work. Then I noticed that it also wasn't working on another game and I thought maybe it was Steam's fault because there was an update to my steam around the same time.

Anyway long story short there was another update to my steam so I figured I'd try doing what I did last time to see if it works, and it did. Here's what I did.

Go to Library-

Right click on Skul: The Hero Slayer

Click on Controller Tab

Under "Override for Skul: The Hero Slayer" drop down, I chose Enable Steam Input

This got it working for me again. Try the other options as well, such as "Use default settings", if this one doesn't work my steam around the same time.
