Controller issues: 'Stuck', endless scrolling, unwanted walking in one direction
I am playing with a PS4 controller, connected via USB, on Windows 10. I have 150+ hours and with this controller things were fine. I used to have an XBox360 controller but it had the same issue that occurs now:

Even when I do nothing, Zagreus walks into the same direction unless I steer against that. When I try and select a keepsake or Pact of Punishment options, sort of an endless scrolling happens, as if I was holding down the left joystick into one direction.

I thought maybe my xbox controller was too old, so I bought a new PS4 one and everything worked for the next 100 hours. Now the same issue is back.

I have tried:

  • entering the Launch option lines /UseNativeGaInput=true and /UseNativeGaInputNoController=false

  • disconnecting the controller, disabling Steam Input (under settings > controller), opening the game, closing it, and enabling Steam Input controller, connecting controller, starting the game again

  • try different death zone settings

  • disable vibrations

EDIT: I also tried the following (as in the discussion below, but I thought I'd add it here)

  • launch pad option /AllowControlHotSwap=false /UseMouse=false and /PS4Gamepad=true]

After trying the first two, I went back to the pack of punishment (even though Zagreus still was headed left and I had to steer against it again) and the scrolling issue persists, except now it is from bottom to top, instead of top to bottom lol. Before the issue got really bad it already felt like sometimes Zagreus would keep running a bit too long, even when I had already stopped, but it was still playable, so I ignored it.

I have never played with mouse and keyboard. Any ideas what else I might try to fix this issue?

    Thanks,
    Lys

I'm having the same issues on Linux, using Proton and a 3rd party controller which seems to be recognized as a PS3 controller.
So, it might not be you but something in the latest update broke.

Could you try setting the launch options /AllowControlHotSwap=false /UseMouse=false ?

You can also try adding /PS4Gamepad=true

I am having the same issue using a PS3 controller I used to log over 100hrs.
Does anyone have a fix yet?

Have you tried what I listed above, and did you try the steps the first post mentioned?

Yes, did not work. Its at the point where the PS3 controller is unable to control the game at all. I am unable to move the character or navigate the start menu with the controller. A task I was able to do a a week ago.

Could you try updating Proton? I believe 5.13 is the most recent version.

Used the newer version of proton. Same issue, but 5.0 was working last week and its reliable for Linux and other games I play on steam.

Do you have any other controllers connected?

I tried both of these. The first one lead to me being able to freely use the pact of punishment without the endless scrolling, but for some reason the problem persisted with the keepsake selection (in that it auto-scrolled upward). Zagreus walked really clonky but wasn't stuck. The second one I tried lead to Zagreus being stuck again walking in one direction, and the Pact selection being extremely fast, sometimes skipping options when I scrolled. The keepsake issue persisted.

Do I have to try all of them at the same time? The ones you suggested plus the ones I tried at the very start, that are in my original post?

Thank you for your suggestions!

EDIT: tried all of them at the same time. Pact works normal, keepsake problem persists, Zagreus walks clonky (sensitivity seems really off?), but I got a camera controller thingy notification when I started the game

What if you then adjust the dead zone settings in-game? And what was the wording of the notification?

If I up the dead zone almost to the max it works better, sometimes he still walks when I stopped walking, and it is still a bit wonky, but playable I think. The keepsake problem is gone, as is the pact problem. All this is with all 4 /commands on in the launch options.

I couldn't read what it said last time, it only popped up for a setting, but it also had the controller symbol. It didn't appear this time but I will write if it shows up again!
