I don't know about Linux Mint, but I do know that these two links tend to help with getting Proton to work:

Work for me (using DirectX via Proton - when I try to use Vulkan directly, it tells me that there is no graphics device). Free AMD drivers (i.e. what comes with Debian GNU/Linux testing) on a Radeon RX 5500M.

Same problem - NVidia GTX1650, up-to-the-minute proprietary driver updates, Ubuntu 20.04 - all I get is a black screen and the opening music, followed by my system crashing and forcing me to shut off power to my laptop (Acer Nitro 5). Filled with unspeakable frustration that I can't get the game to work.

I got it to work! I had read in another forum that later versions of Proton did not play well with some games, and so I reverted to a compatibility set-up that used Proton 5.0 instead of the later versions. This was ... counterintuitive, to say the least. But it worked! Hades ran, and what's more, the game seems to be running more smoothly and better than I remembered. So ... one more thing to experiment with is running it under DX12, with updated drivers, and Proton 5.0 instead of the later builds.

I sympathize with your frustration. I had a great deal of trouble trying to install a number of Windows games in my library, including several that are listed as "platimum" (i.e., meaning that they work very well using Proton). I have found that (1) following various arcane bits of anonymous online scripting advice has sometimes led me down a very long and dark path - frequently the advice was either flat wrong, out of date, or completely inappropriate for my specific hardware and configuration; as an example, blindly following some configuration scripting advice has probably ruined my Red Dead Redemption 2 download, and I shudder to think that I may have to spend another three days downloading the monstrous thing again. (2) sometimes the problem has just wondrously fixed itself as a result of developer-side updates (as in the case of the March 30th update to Disco Elysium) and (3) sometimes there just doesn't seem to be any workaround whatsoever (Sid Meier's Air Aces is an obscure and unpopular game, it was more-or-less abandoned by its publisher, does not work in Proton, and probably never will work, despite the fact that it's a game I played and enjoyed before taking the Linux plunge),

At least it's been a learning experience. I've learned about the cold dead hand of commerce, market share, DRM, and the blind corners and strange alleyways of open-source software.
