the gun is so bad
can't even beat elysium without modifiers. Any tips for this weapon? Seems so incredibly bad.

My least favourite weapon.
Mainly try to get either something with massive damage-modifier on the Special and try for Special Hammers, or something with poke damage on the Attack and go for Attack Hammers. You'll attack whenever Special is on Cooldown.

It's not as bad as the gauntlets which apparently require a specific boons or upgrades to be any useful at all. You literally throw yourself in harms way using them lol

The gun is both ranged and fast. Most status effects on the shot turn it into murder machine.
The special can be good because you can aim it over walls if you try hard but it is kinda awkward to use correctly.

just don't get hit and you're golden

My favorite is Zeus on attack, even the common boon doubles its damage while adding some aoe, while the special can get a high damage boon like Aphrodite.

Titan blood to upgrade it, it's truly useless at base level stats on ANY aspect, pure abject misery until lvl 3. And then go for attack boons or special attack boons first thing in your run (it's my least favorite weapon so I don't have a preference on boons, most of them are fine ? I guess), follow by a protective (athena, athena, athena DEFLECT) or high damage dash boon (aries or demeter...avoid status inflicting dashes, you should rely on your attack to inflict those), and then stack on as many boons that modify or increase your first 3 boon effects. Daedalus hammers are your FRIEND on this weapon.

You will need to dodge with it like you are using a shorter range weapons, more so than with the bow. It's knockback effects are not reliable (even upgraded or modified) so find something that helps you deflect or return the "investment" on incurred damage. I'm also
always shocked by how different the apects' specials feel to me, mechanics wise, commit yourself to dying a lot (lol) and mess around with it.

I find that every "final aspect" is meant to be a *twist* on the weapon. they *play* with a distinct difference from the three other ones. They often slow you down as they give your attacks more oomph or a tradeoff. The gun's final aspect is so fun :D
It really rewards positioning yourself WELL

Fast ranged regular attack should be good with boons that stack debuff or Zeus. I kind of liked it as a grenade launcher, get boon for special that does heavy damage on hit. A couple of hammers really improve the special as well; Rocket Bomb and Cluster Bomb are both lots of fun (and insane well combined together). Are you playing M+K or controller btw? I've heard the Rail/Bow (the ranged weapons) are generally harder to use for controller than M+K.

:lunar2019crylaughingpig: 100% truth, but still funny.

More than most weapons the Rail is all about the hammers, and the boons that synergize with what you get.

Most of the special hammers are a straight up massive increase in power. Particularly Hazard Bomb is the easiest of EZ modes at low heat. Just be aware of which ones you can stack, and make sure you take a Special boon with big damage % increase.

Attack hammers are a bit more difficult because they tend to be less of a jump in power. Instead you'll need to pick up an Attack boon that work well with the rapid fire attack. It'll be more difficult/slower than the flat up power increase of Special hammers, but you can eventually get the Attack to a point where it's good enough as your primary attack.

Yeah felt like the gun really need a specific build to work, more than everything else. Sword and Shield are weapons I can just pick up and win without planning much. But with gun I am still stuck on the hird zone without any heat lmao. The difference is crazy.

Yep gonna try it again while focusing on Zeus or Diomedes attack boon.

The word "eventually" pretty much sums up my issue with gun: The attack feels impotent unless one puts immense effort into it. Worse with Lucifer, as then it feels like I am hitting enemies with a soaker. Not a super-soaker, there is nothing super about it.
Made worse by the fact that I have to let go of the attack to Reload, Attack is stationary, and Zag does not want to reload during Dashes. So it is work to keep track of the ammo and to find good spots to fire from. That is just a bit too much busywork for me considering the damage output. Personal mileage may vary.

Not very coincidentally, removing the need to Reload is always what I take when I don't get any good Special Hammers. That is one issue removed, as then I can just Dash->Attack->Dash->Attack properly.

Tldr: I tend to use Shackle in Tartarus so I have actual damage output while searching for Boons to make the hits hurt while using Gun.

The reload mechanic feels AWFUL. If I'm gonna play ranged I just play bow.

for me, the gun is really fun with Special modifiers that give over 180% damage, alongside triple bomb and the bigger blast thing. Easily goes over 1k damage with each of the three bombs. Fun as hell but really, really luck dependent.

Honestly just grind for Hestia's aspect enough then you get effectively a shotgun-type play. Manual reload -> big damage -> manual reload -> big damage
