death defiance count not really working

Well there's a count on the top of the screen in the boons menu that tells you how many death defiance you have but it doesn't go down when you use them so its really hard to remember if i used them or not. I went into a boss battle with low health thinking i could just go and die since it said i had 3 when i didn't have any left. Not a major flaw great game just don't know if I'm missing something or is there just no way to see your total death defiance left that run.

I think you are looking at the menu where your mirror upgrades are displayed. That three simply means you have purchased the upgrade to have three death defiances. Your actual death defiance count is right above your health bar. You should see three circles with little Zagreus faces, those are your charges. If you use the skelly keepsake it adds one with a different symbol, and I think if you recharge them the symbol changes too.
