Question about boons on doorways
I've noticed when it has rays of light emanating off the symbol, it gives +1 to rewards or double artifact rewards, but are there any other indicators I'm missing. I've noticed sometimes the laurels on the sides are gold and some are not and I have a door where both have light rays, but one is also sparkling. What is the difference?

It's a bit hard to see, but the door for Dionysus has sparkles around the boon whereas Aphrodite's door just has rays of light.

Thanks for this, but that doesn't really address the rays of light or sparkles. As Insufficient Brain said, are these just random effects that don't mean anything? Even in the River of Styx, the expensive boons have rays of light whereas the cheaper ones do not and the two Satyr rooms with rays of light both give double rewards (and also appear to always be the boss rooms).

Given the rays of light seem to have meaning, I find it hard to believe the rest are just extra flourish.

I honestly don't even know what in that picture you're looking at. Both of those doors have gold laurels, because those appear on everything that affects the current run, such as boons, poms, or gold. Both of them have the skull symbol, which indicates a harder room with improved rewards. And of course the symbol in the middle tells you what you're actually getting. Is there some other visual effect you're noticing?

He's right though. The particle effects do nothing, the skull at the bottom of the symbol indicate a miniboss/hard room, which improves the reward. Any additional content (wells, challenges) are random and can't be guessed from the door. The colour of the laurel merely indicates which group of rooms it belongs to, important for switching them using the mirror upgrade. All boons, hammer, shop and I think gold rooms have gold laurels at the side. Gems, darkness etc. have the other type.

In other words: maybe try reading the responses if you want your question answered.

Go to the River Styx and look at the two boss doors. They both have rays of light emanating off them whereas the other doors do not. Every. Single. Time. Those two doors, AND ONLY those two doors will have rays of light. I simply found it hard to believe the devs would include something like that as a clear indicator of double-rewards in the River of Styx but make them just fancy particle effects on lower levels. I'm well aware that a single person said they were just particle effects, but I'm the type who prefers to have more than just one person give their input before calling a myth busted. The mod just referred me to a picture thinking that I wasn't aware what the symbols meant (despite me detailing that I knew exactly what the symbols meant other than the laurels), and insufficient brain said they were useless. Then one guy decided to reiterate what not only the mod told me, but what you learn within fifteen seconds of playing this game (hint: I have 50 hours logged and have completed the main story).

So, I read the responses but I'm not satisfied with the SINGLE answer I received to my question.

I wish I could make save-states just to test the difference between two doors when I come across them, but from what I've noticed, you don't get double rewards in lower levels as far as some things are concerned (no double health or +2 poms), but it's hard to tell if the boons provided are offering higher rarity with those doors than normal. As I said above, I only have 50 hours logged, so I'm sure there's someone here with a lot more experience with this game than me who can narrow this down.

He is obviously referring to the one on the left, Dio.

Looks like lighting. Both doors have the sparkles, it's just more obvious on the Dionysus door due to the increased light in that part of the chamber. Look more closely at both doors and you'll see they have the same effects.

I second this post being correct.

This seems to be right. If you look at the right door, there are the same sparkles as the left, just darker. Most visibly on the bottom and top of the orb, both pointing slightly left.

OP isn't talking about the rays, he even said they both had rays. He's talking about sparkles, which seem to be completely absent on the Aphrodite door.
To OP, what loadout did you have at that point? Dionysus keepsake maybe? or maybe it's a boon you got prior. Although I think it really is just pretty effects. I had two doors from chaos with boons and they both had the same effects, sparkles and all, while I had only one boon at the time from a different god and keepsake had nothing to do with either.

What do you mean by "sparkles"? I'm not trying to be difficult, I just honestly don't see anything in that picture, on or around either orb, that I would describe as sparkles. If you're referring to the rays of light emanating outwards, both of them have that. It's much more pronounced on the Dionysus door, yes, but that door is just much better lit in general, which could be because one of the vertical beams of light happens to pass over it. If it's something very faint that I'm missing, then it probably is indeed present on both doors, and just not really visible on the other one due to the lighting.
