You need to then make the comittment to the safe but more tedious (in some people's experience) way. Avoiding damage is not just a priority, it's the primary objective. Start the rooms by dancing around staying out ot THEIR attack ranges. When you know the enemy type, start dispatching them SAFELY. Don't take risks. Running away is always more important.
So most of all, it's the approach that has to be dfferent. Not to maximise damage done to enemies, but to absolutely minimise the getting hit part.
