What happens if I pick up an anvil but don't have any hammer?
Do I get two random upgrades?

I'm playing the sword's Poseidon Aspect and didn't need hammers as my build was cast-focused. When I got to the later shop it offered me an anvil, despite having not having acquired any hammers before.

I was about to say that you probably don't get the anvil if you don't have hammers, but you just disproved that. Interesting. I agree, you probably get two random upgrades.

I will probably never test this because a) I like hammers too much to skip them and b) the two times I bought the anvil it screwed my setup (gave me Hazard Bomb both times)

Anvil is pretty dumb, honestly. When it comes to Deadalus, you want specific upgrades, not random stuff.

I love it because it's a gamble :steamhappy:

I'm going to see what happens and report back

When you approach it, the text under it reads "Requires (hammer)"

Sometimes you didn't get anything worthwhile though, so you might as well roll em into whatever else. It's a decent option.

I was pretty salty after my first use...lol
Its too bad it couldn't be: manually replace or choose one upgrade.

If I only get one hammer and I don't like it, I'll just get the anvil to play that lottery

It doesn't always go my way but I enjoy the thrill anyway

Agreed. Too much of a gamble too late in the game.

Prior to my first success, I got it once on a build that I felt was certain to succeed.

I found the Anvil without any hammer boons at Styx. It wouldn't let me buy it (the price was 1 hammer)

Anvil is decent if you know that your upgrades are bad and there's a decent chance you can get a better one. That said, I'd only get it if I know that it can't ruin my existing build. I think I've bought it a total of 8 times out of 35 wins or so. Usually it just replaces one meh upgrade with two meh upgrades.
